🌾 Awareness Rally to Stop Stubble Burning Organized at Guru Kashi University 🌱
The Faculty of Agriculture, Guru Kashi University (GKU), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), organized an Awareness Rally to Stop Stubble Burning on 4th November 2025.
The rally was flagged off by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Rameshwar Singh, who, in his inaugural address, emphasized the serious environmental and health impacts of stubble burning. He highlighted the alternative and productive uses of crop residues, encouraging farmers and students to adopt eco-friendly and sustainable practices for effective straw management.
Dr. Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Pro Vice Chancellor, spoke about the importance of crop residue management, explaining how innovative and sustainable technologies can help farmers enhance their income while protecting the environment.
Mr. Sardool Singh, Director Students’ Welfare (DSW), addressed the gathering on the harmful effects of straw burning on human health and ecosystems, urging everyone to act responsibly to safeguard the planet.
Dr. Lokender Kashyap, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, discussed the negative impacts of straw burning on soil fertility, environmental quality, and agricultural sustainability. He inspired students to spread awareness in rural communities and take part in building a pollution-free Punjab.
Mrs. Narinder Kaur, NSS Coordinator, also contributed significantly to the success of the rally. She motivated the students and faculty members to participate actively in this noble cause and emphasized the collective responsibility of youth in protecting the environment.
The Faculty of Agriculture extends heartfelt thanks to all faculty members, NSS volunteers, and students for their active participation and enthusiasm, which made this awareness campaign a great success.
