Goddess Chandraghanta is the married form the Goddess Parvati. After getting married to Lord Shiva, Parvati started adorning her forehead with half Chandra (half moon).

Chandra means Moon and Ghanta is for bell.

Goddess Chandraghanta is depicted in a radiant form, her appearance is mild and ever-smiling. She mounts on the tiger. She wears the semi-circular moon (Chandra) on her forehead. It is believed that the sound of the bell-shaped half-moon dispels all type of evil away from her devotees. She is depicted with ten hands, five of which carry diverse weapons like the Trishul (Trident), Gada (mace) , Sword, Bow and Arrow. She also holds a rosary, a Kamandal (water utensil) and a lotus in three hands. Two of her hands are shaped into Varada Mudra (dispensing boons)and in Abhaya Mudra (assuring safety and bliss).

This day the mind of the striver enters Manipura Chakra. At this stage by the grace of mother Chandraghanta he becomes capable of seeing unearthly and divine things. He smells the divine fragrance and many types of divine sound become audible to him. On this day and in this stage of discipline the striver is required to be most careful.

Maa Brahmacharini
Brahma (Penance) + Charini (Performer). The one who performs penance.

She was born to Himalaya. Devrishi Narada influenced her thoughts and as a result, she practised tough penances as she was determined to obtain Lord Shiva as her divine consort. She spent hundred of years eating very little or nothing at all, but her penance was so pure and had so much strength, power that it caused great disturbance in all the three worlds. Her desire to obtain Lord Shiva as her divine consort was eventually fulfilled.

She holds a rosary in her right hand and Kamandalu (water pot) in her left. She personifies love and loyalty, knowledge and wisdom. Mata Brahmacharini is a store-house of knowledge and wisdom. Rudraksha is Her most adorned ornament.

On the second day of Navratri Durga Pooja, it is the Brahmacharini aspect of mother Goddess Durga that is worshipped. This way the mind of the striver moving upward is established in Swadhisthana Chakra.

Maa Durga is Shailputri,
who was born to the King of Mountains.
“Shail” means mountain and “putri” means daughter.

Maa Shailputri, an absolute form of Mother Nature, is worshipped on the first day of Navratri. She is also referred to as Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva and mother of Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya. The image of Maa Shailputri is a divine lady, holding a trishul in her right hand and lotus flower in her left hand. She rides on Nandi.

Maa Shailputri is the goddess of the muladhara chakra or root chakra, and upon awakening this Shakti one begins their journey to spiritual awakening and to their purpose in life.
