Nutrition and Community Action Resource Centre, Tezpur University Assam envisages to complement the State Government's effort under POSHAN Abhiyaan.

On 2nd of May, the NCARe - UNICEF Review meeting & discussion on the budgeted activities of the UNICEF & POSHAN Abhiyaan Projects, was held at NCARe Centre, Tezpur University.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Shweta Sharma, Nutrition Specialist from UNICEF,Assam, Professor-in-charges and Team members (Programme Manager, Programme Coordinators, Project Coordinators - Sonitpur & Biswanath and Project Assistant) of the Centre; working at the district and state level.

On 28th of April, 2022, an Orientation session for the Field Investigators and Project Coordinators(Sonitpur & Biswanath) on Assessment of VHSND functioning in Sonitpur & Biswanath districts of Assam. The session was held at NCARe Centre, Tezpur University.

It was coordinated by Dr. Namami Sharma, Professor-in-charge of NCARe Centre, Sayan Deori, Programme Manager, Dinesh Singh, Programme Coordinator, Tonaya Borah, Project Assistant along with the other members present.

On 15th March 2022,
NCARe Centre, Tezpur University participated in the celebration of "World Social Work Day" at the Dept. of Social Work, Tezpur University. The members of NCARe Centre, Sayan Deori, Programme Manager, Dinesh Kr. Singh, Programme Coordinator and Tonaya Borah, Project Assistant did a Knowledge-Innovation Installation.

The events of the day included NGO-Community Interface, Online Public lecture by Medha Patkar and setting up of creative handicrafts and food stalls, art exhibition by students from different depts of the University.

State Nutrition and Community Action Resource (NCARe) Centre, Tezpur University and POSHAN Abhiyaan, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Assam came together to collaborate to work towards addressing the nutrition issues and improving the nutrition landscape of Assam, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect. The MoU was signed in the presence of officials of UNICEF Assam at the Office of the Directorate of Social Welfare, Guwahati on 10th of December,2021. The signatories in the MoU were the Registrar, Tezpur University and the State Project Director, POSHAN Abhiyaan, Govt. of Assam.

The purpose of signing this MoU is to strengthen the relationship between POSHAN Abhiyaan, Govt. of Assam and NCARe Centre, Tezpur University and their shared commitments towards improving the nutrition of children and women in the state. As per the MoU, NCARe Centre will receive a grant from the Government, initially for one year to carry on with various nutrition interventions in the state of Assam.

A two-day District and Block level Tot on Innovation of Complementary Feeding under Poshan Abhiyaan for DSWO, CDPOs, Supervisors and Poshan was held from 22nd-23rd November by Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Sonitpur in association with District Administration, Sonitpur at District Library & Auditorium, Tezpur. The programme was inaugurated by Hon'ble DC of Sonitpur, Sri Bhupesh Chandra Das. The representatives from NCARe Centre, Tezpur University Mr. Sayan jyoti Deori, Project Associate(Technical) and Tonaya Borah, Project Assistant(Knowledge Management) participated as Resource Persons in the programme. The programme was attended by ADC i/c Social welfare, State Nutrition Consultants, DSWOs, District Program Manager, Dietician NRC, representatives from CINI, CDPOs, Sector Supervisors and Poshan staff.

On 20th of November, 2021, Inauguration of Complementary Feeding Innovation was organised by Social Welfare Department, Jorhat with technical support from UNICEF, Assam in association with District Administration, Jorhat. The programme was attended by ADC i/c Social welfare, DSWO, District Immunization Officer, Dietician NRC, Mr. Dinesh Singh, Divisional Project Associate, NCARe Centre, Tezpur University, representatives from CINI, CDPOs, Sector Supervisors and Poshan staffs at District Science Centre and Planetarium, Jorhat, Assam.

A Project Level Shishu Mangal Diwas and sensitization of AWWs was held on 23rd September, 2021 in Kuchdhowa ICDS Project, organized by Social Welfare Dept. in collaboration with UNICEF Partners, i.e., NCARe Centre Tezpur University and CINI.

The event was addressed by State Project Director of POSHAN Abhiyaan, Shri Bibhash Chandra Modi and the local MLA. The event was also attended by Dr. Shweta Sharma, Nutrition Specialist of UNICEF, Deputy Director of POSHAN Abhiyaan and CINI Officials.

Ratnadeep Baruah from NCARe, Tezpur University sensitized the 150 approx. AWWs present on the importance of the first 1000 days, why should we say no to early child marriage especially in case of adolescent girls and performed a monologue on the conversations of a mother & her son and a father & her daughter to address the grassroot issue of junk foods in the daily diet of child encouraging healthy diet instead.

CINI’s activities involved a session on food components at the CBE and dissemination of key messages on breastfeeding and feeding practices.

The District Administration Sonitpur organised a Model VHSND and Sishu Mangal Diwas at Tri murti Bhawan, Dhekiajuli block, Sonitpur, Assam on 29th of Sept, 21.

The objective of the event was to sensitise the frontline workers; ANM, ASHA and AWWs in nutrition as part of POSHAN Abhiyaan and show the prevalence of SAM and the ways adapted to minimise this and their roles. The event was attended by the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur district,ADC of Sonitpur, MLA of Borsola Mr. Ganesh Kr. Limbu, CEO of Zilla Parishad, Joint Director of Health Services and representatives from line departments, CINI NGO and NCARe Centre, Tezpur University along with the participants and other officials.

On 22nd of September, Mr.Dinesh Singh (Divisional Project Associate) from NCARe Centre,Tezpur University participated in two CBEs in Central Jorhat ICDS project with the DSWO, at Halalbari and Rajoi tea estate.District wide CBEs were organised on the day at AWC level by the Department of Social Welfare, Jorhat with support from CINI. The CBEs were conducted around Maternal Nutrition, Breastfeeding and complementary feeding. Awareness was generated through dissemination of key messages shared by CINI. More than 30,000 beneficiaries were reached through the CBEs conducted at around 1600 AWCs across Jorhat.

The representatives from NCARe Centre, Mr. Sayan Deori (Project Associate) and Tonaya Borah (Project Assistant) attended as Resource Persons in the programme organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon for celebration of International Year of Millets, 2023 and the Campaign on Nutri-Garden and Tree plantation as a part of POSHAN Maah activity. The programme was presided over by the HOD of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Nagaon in presence of honourable dignitaries from RARS, members of Zilla Parishad, Social Welfare department and Developmental blocks.

The Resource Persons spoke on the importance of Nutri-Gardens and linked it towards Nutri sensitive approaches to address malnutrition, Food groups and its functions and significance of balanced diet during the life cycle. They also touched upon the importance of 1st 1000 days and provided information on all the available government schemes for the beneficiaries regarding nutrition and how to avail them.

In the programme, plant saplings were distributed amongst the participants followed by a plantation activity in the KVK campus. Distribution of millets-rich food items among adolescent girls was also done.

The District Social Welfare department, Jorhat in collaboration with NCARe Centre,Tezpur University supported by Jorhat District administration held a "Workshop on Food Diversity and Nutrition" on 14 of September'21 at Mukti Jujaru Bhawan,Jorhat, Assam. The resource persons were Ms. Gitashree Phukan, State Nutrition consultant, UNICEF, Assam, Mr. Sayan Deori, Mr. Dinesh Singh and Ms. Tonaya Borah from NCARe centre,TU. The workshop was attended by DSWO,Jorhat, all the ICDS sector Supervisors of Jorhat and Poshan team, representatives of civil society,ASRLM, Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres,National Health Mission, a few frontline(Anganwadi Workers) and the staff members of District Social Welfare department, Jorhat. The topics covered were broadly Food diversity, Complementary feeding, breastfeeding, Activity on food groups and balanced diet,etc.
