Role of students and teachers in education

Swami Vivekananda observes that a student is a like a seed in sprouting. A plant develops its own nature. Even if it can teach itself, you can help it go forward in its own way. You can take away the obstacles, but knowledge comes out of its own nature. Loosen the soil a little, so that it may come out easily. Put a hedge round it; see that it is not killed by anything. Supply the growing seed with the materials for the making up of its body, bringing to it the earth, the water, the air… and then your work stops. The rest, the plant teaches itself; the child educates itself. You cannot do anything else. So speaking over to the students, even if you go to the most premier training institutions for competitive studies, you can achieve the goals only if you put a little bit of hard work and dedication onto it. The teachers can teach you, train you and make you sensibly dream of being a rank holder, but you have to become one, with your own sweat, blood and toil. For a good student learning is like travelling in foreign lands; it is an experience, a treasure. For great teachers, work is worship; a pedagogy that sprouts from a progressive approach via social constructivism.
