🌍 Department of Practical Ministry – The Heartbeat of India Bible College & Seminary (IBCS)
At India Bible College & Seminary, theological learning is never limited to classrooms alone. The Department of Practical Ministry stands as one of the most vibrant and mission-oriented departments of the institution, shaping students not only academically, but also spiritually and practically for real-life ministry.
The department is led by Rev. Abraham Thomas, Dean of Practical Ministry, under whose leadership students are trained to actively engage with people, churches, and communities across India. Truly, this department functions as the very heart of IBCS, where learning meets mission and faith meets action.
Every year during summer vacations, students are sent to different parts of India to gain practical ministry experience. These mission exposures help students understand the realities of ministry in diverse cultural and linguistic settings. They participate in church ministries, open-air gospel meetings, tract distribution, singing, preaching, and various outreach programs.
Weekend ministry is also an important part of student life at IBCS. Students are regularly sent to churches where they minister through preaching, sharing testimonies, singing, teaching Sunday School classes, playing musical instruments such as keyboards, and conducting house visits. Many students are also actively involved in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi-speaking congregations in different mission fields, developing a broader vision for ministry in India.
The Department of Practical Ministry also strongly emphasizes social responsibility and compassionate service. Students and faculty members participate in community outreach initiatives such as cleaning towns, hospitals, government-owned KSRTC buses as part of their commitment to serve society with humility and love.
During the Covid-19 pandemic and the devastating Kerala floods, the IBCS family played a remarkable role in relief and rebuilding efforts. Students actively participated in supporting affected communities, demonstrating that ministry is not merely preaching from a pulpit, but serving people in times of pain and crisis.
The Department of Practical Ministry continues to mold students into compassionate leaders, faithful servants, and effective ministers who are prepared to carry the Gospel beyond the walls of the classroom into the real world.
