Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies Tiruvalla (MACFAST), Kerala, India, a post graduate and research institution, was started in 2001, with the objective of offering specially designed courses in Business Management & Information Technology. MACFAST is owned and managed by the Corporate Educational Agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Tiruvalla, with His Grace Dr. Thomas Mar Koorilos as t

he President and Patron. MACFAST is located in the commercially active town of Tiruvalla, Kerala. Amidst the lush green, stands this multi-storeyed building with a built-up area of 3,00,000 sq. MACFAST strives to raise its students to meet the challenging demands of the Corporate and Scientific world. In such a mission, research pursuits and technology initiatives gain significance. This had led to the recent establishment of the MACFAST Centre for Research and Development (MCRD). The MCRD offers PhD programmes in the Biosciences and is poised to enhance student creativity and produce high quality research. A research journal titled Journal of Science, Technology and Management (JSTM), has also been initiated in 2008. JSTM is dedicated to bring together research in these three fields from around the world and also publish original work from the MCRD. Radio MACFAST 90.4 is the first on campus Community radio in the State and 46th in the Country. MACFAST College has reached yet another acme by decorating a position of First solar campus in India. It envisages to utilizing alternate sources of energy for a sustainable future. This solar project has a capacity of 30KW and 30-40% of the amount will be funded by central Government as subsidy through ANERT.

Exploring the frontiers of modern biology! 🔬✨

The Department of Biosciences (2025–27 Batch) successfully completed an enriching industrial visit to Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram and Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology on May 7–8, 2026.

At IISER Thiruvananthapuram, students attended an insightful scientific session by Dr. Bhoominathan ( Assistant Professor in Biology) gaining valuable exposure to advanced biological research and emerging scientific perspectives. The visit also included laboratory demonstrations and interactive sessions, where technical assistance was provided by Nithya and Parvathy, making the experience highly engaging and informative for the students.

At RGCB, the students had the privilege of attending a scientific session led by our proud alumnus Dr. Shijulal and his Bioinformatics team, followed by a visit to the state-of-the-art central laboratory facilities.

The visit offered students firsthand exposure to cutting-edge research environments, advanced instrumentation, and real-world applications in biosciences, inspiring the next generation of researchers and innovators. Mr Stephen James, Dr Teena Merlin , Ms. Unnimaya G had the privilege to witness a unforgettable scientific memory 🌱🧬
