The Department of Social Work organized a workshop on the theme “Pathways to Practice: Exploring Career Opportunities in Social Work” on 5 June 2026. The programme aimed to expose students to diverse career avenues and professional opportunities in the field of social work.

The workshop featured distinguished resource persons: Madam. Michelle Ch. Momin, District Mission Manager (DMM), MSRLS, Tura; Smt. Amesa Chesrame S. Sangma, Counsellor, District Prison & Correctional Home, Tura; Dr. Anindita Sangma, Thematic Expert, RGSA, Tura and Dr. Steve Cherak, Neuro-Psychiatrist, Civil Hospital, Tura. The speakers shared their professional experiences, discussed the scope of social work practice in their respective sectors, and provided valuable guidance on career development.

The programme was attended by students from the Department of Social Work, NEHU, along with faculty member, MSW students of ICFAI University Meghalaya, Tura Campus, and other faculty members of the university. Participants actively engaged in the interactive sessions and gained valuable insights into emerging opportunities and challenges in the profession.

The workshop concluded successfully, enriching the participants' understanding of career pathways and inspiring them to pursue meaningful professional roles in the field of social work.

📢 Workshop on “Pathways to Practice: Exploring Career Opportunities in Social Work”

The Department of Social Work, ICFAI University Meghalaya, Tura Campus, is delighted to organize a one-day workshop titled “Pathways to Practice: Exploring Career Opportunities in Social Work” on 5th June 2026 (Friday) at the ICFAI University Meghalaya- Tura Campus Hall.

This workshop aims to provide students, aspiring social workers, and professionals with valuable insights into diverse career pathways in the field of social work. Experts from various sectors will share their experiences and discuss opportunities in:

The Department of Social Work conducted the Viva Voce examination for MSW Second Semester students after the completion of their fieldwork at various agencies. The viva aimed to assess the students’ practical learning experiences, professional skills, and understanding of social work practice gained during their fieldwork.

The examination was evaluated by the external examiner, Sir Bukul Ch Sangma (Block Lead, M-EIP, Rongram C&RD Block), who interacted with the students regarding their field experiences and learning outcomes. The department expresses sincere gratitude to the examiner for his valuable guidance and evaluation.

The Department of Social Work, ICFAI University Meghalaya-Tura Campus organised an educational field visit titled “Cooperatives in Action: An Organisational Visit” to Dondime Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd, Balachanda on 1st May 2026.

The visit was intended to provide MSW final year students with practical experience in the working of cooperative societies. The visit provided the students with useful insight into the way the cooperative is managed and organised. Secretary of the cooperative society explained the processes involved in procurement of raw materials, processing of products and marketing strategies.

Students had the opportunity to observe the different livelihood activities carried out by the cooperative such as handloom, processing of betel nut and black pepper. They also learned about product preparation and how to make them ready for the market as well as the importance of collective efforts in sustaining rural livelihoods.

Overall, the visit was very informative and enriched the students’ understanding of cooperative management, community-based enterprises, and grassroots economic development.

The Department of Social Work, ICFAI University Meghalaya Tura-Campus, successfully conducted the Study Tour Viva Voce for the MSW Final Year students today at the Department.

The viva voce was organized as part of the academic evaluation process to assess the students’ understanding, learning experiences, and field exposure gained during their study tour. Students presented their observations, insights, and reflections, demonstrating their ability to relate theoretical knowledge with practical field realities.

The session was enriched by the presence of external experts, Madam Tarina T Sangma (Asst. Lecturer, MPA Tura) and Madam Jenysha Sangma (Guest Lecturer, ICFAI University Tura-Campus), who served as evaluators. Their valuable feedback, critical insights, and academic guidance contributed significantly to making the session interactive and meaningful.

The viva voce provided a platform for students to enhance their analytical and communication skills while reflecting on their professional growth. The Department extends its sincere gratitude to the external experts for their time and contribution, and congratulates the students for their active participation and commendable performance.
