Established in 1963, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a constitu Post Baccalaureate and Ph.D. programmes.

Established in 1963, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS) offers D.Pharm., B.Pharm., M.Pharm., Pharm.D., Pharm.D. The hospital pharmacy manufacturing unit and pharmacies of the Kasturba Hospital provide practical training to students. Practical training in manufacturing pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, perfumes and cosmetics museum and a medicinal garden is provided to the students. A bioavailability study centre and placement cell are some of the other facilities offered by the institution. Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences has research labs for pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical marketing and administration, pharmacology, pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical quality assurance and pharmaceutical biotechnology. In the last 40 years, more than 1500 research papers have been published and presented at various national and international conferences. The college has received research grants from CSIR, DST, ICMR, UGC, AICTE, DBT, DAE and pharmaceutical industries.

🏆 Celebrating Excellence in Pharmacy | A Proud Moment for MCOPS

MCOPS, MAHE is proud to celebrate Dr. Srinivas Mutalik, Principal and Professor, MCOPS, on being conferred the Eminent Academic Pharmacist Award by the Food Safety and Drug Administration, Government of Karnataka and Karnataka State Pharmacy Council, Bangalore on the occasion of World Pharmacists Day 2026, held on 25 September 2026 at MCOPS, MAHE, Manipal.

An accomplished academician, researcher, and administrator, Dr. Mutalik brings extensive experience spanning academia, pharmaceutical industry, research, and institutional leadership. His research expertise encompasses novel & targeted drug delivery, nanotechnology, and theranostics. To his credit, Dr. Mutalik has more than 340 Scopus-indexed publications, 16 patents, research grants exceeding ₹10 crore, and has guided 23 PhD scholars, 10 postdoctoral researchers, and numerous MPharm scholars. His academic journey also includes postdoctoral research at the University of Queensland, Australia, and a visiting research stint at A*STAR, Singapore.

Over the years, his contributions to pharmaceutical research and education have earned him numerous prestigious honours, including the Sir C. V. Raman Young Scientist State Award, APTI Dr. A. N. Mishra Award, APTI Young Pharmacy Teacher Award, and VGST Best Research Paper Award, among many others.

This latest recognition is a proud acknowledgement of Dr. Mutalik’s sustained commitment to excellence in pharmaceutical research, education, mentorship, and academic leadership. MCOPS heartily congratulates him on this well-deserved honour and wishes him continued success in inspiring future generations of pharmacy professionals!

The Pharmacy Literacy Club (PLC), Centre for Public Health Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, MCOPS, MAHE, in collaboration with the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) – Manipal Branch, Food Safety and Drug Administration, Office of the Assistant Drugs Controller, Udupi, and Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi, celebrated World Pharmacists Day 2026 on 25 September 2026 at MCOPS, under the theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures.”

The programme was graced by Mr. Shankar Naik, Assistant Drugs Controller, Food Safety and Drug Administration, Government of Karnataka, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the important contributions of pharmacists to the pharmaceutical industry and drug development. Dr. D. Sreedhar, Secretary, IPA–Manipal Branch, provided a brief overview of World Pharmacists Day and its significance to the pharmacy profession.

A key highlight of the celebration was the recognition of pharmacists for their contributions to the profession. Dr. Srinivas Mutalik, Principal and Professor, MCOPS, was conferred the Eminent Academic Pharmacist Award by the Food Safety and Drug Administration, Government of Karnataka, and Karnataka State Pharmacy Council, Bengaluru. The Best Community Pharmacist Award was presented to Mr. Salikeri Devarai Varamballi, an illustrious alumnus of MCOPS, recognizing his longstanding contributions and dedicated service to community pharmacy practice.

A panel discussion on “Pharmacists’ Roles in Safe and Rational Medicine Use” brought together Mr. Shankar Naik; Dr. Ashwini Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, KMC, Manipal; Mr. Jose A. J., Proprietor, AJ Pro Care; Mr. Pradeep, Chief Pharmacist, Radha Medicals; and Mr. Raghavendra Kamath, Chief Pharmacist, Kasturba Hospital.

In his presidential remarks, Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Mathews Jacob, VSM (Retd.), Pro Vice Chancellor – Health Sciences, MAHE, emphasized the vital role of pharmacists in patient care and public health, particularly in addressing the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance.

The celebrations also included a walkathon to raise public awareness about antimicrobial resistance, reinforcing the role of pharmacists in promoting responsible medicine use and healthier communities.

MCOPS, MAHE is proud to share that Dr. K. Nandakumar, Vice Principal, MCOPS, was invited to deliver a guest talk during the Faculty Orientation Programme at HSK College of Pharmacy, Bagalkot, Karnataka, on 21 September 2026.

Dr. Nandakumar delivered a session on “PCI Regulations 2014 and 2026: Key Changes in the B.Pharm Curriculum,” highlighting the transition towards outcome- and competency-based pharmacy education. He discussed key aspects of the revised curriculum, including Outcome-Based Education (OBE), credit and workload structure, assessment, internships, research projects, AEC/SEC/VAC courses, and the integration of AI and emerging technologies.

The interactive session also provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives with faculty members on the practical implementation of the PCI 2026 BPharm curriculum.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance, MCOPS, MAHE, Manipal, organized a guest lecture on “Analytical Technology Transfer in Pharmaceutical Industry: From Method Development to Successful Method Implementation” on 21 September 2026 at MCOPS.

The session was delivered by Mr. Tara Chand Tak, CEO & Managing Director, Zoesoe Exports Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Tak, an illustrious alumnus of MCOPS, shared valuable insights drawn from his extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He provided an industry perspective on the journey of a pharmaceutical product from analytical method development to technology transfer and global market authorization.

The session covered API and excipient characterization, impurity and stability assessment, method validation and verification, method ruggedness, analytical technology transfer to Quality Control laboratories, and Quality Assurance procedures. He also highlighted how these processes contribute to successful pharmaceutical product development and regulatory compliance.

The interaction provided students with valuable industry perspectives, connecting academic concepts in analytical method development with real-world quality systems, technology transfer, and commercial pharmaceutical development.

MCOPS, MAHE is pleased to share that Mr. Pranav Prakash, Research Scholar, Department of Pharmaceutics, MCOPS, received the 1st Consolation Prize for his poster presentation at the National Conference on “Quality and Safety of Biosimilars: Strengthening India’s Biopharma SHAKTI Vision,” held from 10–11 September 2026 at C-CAMP, Bengaluru.

The conference was organized by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ghaziabad, in technical collaboration with the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA). Mr. Pranav presented his work titled “Biosimilars in Modern Healthcare: Quality, Regulatory Considerations, & Strategic Alignment with Biopharma SHAKTI Vision.”

He is currently pursuing his research under the guidance of Dr. Girish Pai K., Coordinator – Centre for cGMP & Corporate Relations, MCOPS, MAHE, Manipal.

MCOPS, MAHE is proud to share that Dr. Srinivas Mutalik, Principal, MCOPS, was invited as an Eminent Speaker at the One-Day Faculty Development Programme on “Effective Implementation of the B. Pharm Syllabus (2026) as per NEP 2020,” organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Parul University, Goa, in collaboration with the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), New Delhi, on 19 September 2026.

Dr. Mutalik shared his perspectives on implementing the revised BPharm curriculum, emphasizing outcome-based education, contemporary teaching approaches, and preparing students for the evolving pharmacy profession.

The programme brought together Sri Jashubhai Hirabhai Chaudhari, Vice President, PCI; Mr. Ratnadeep Kurtarkar, Member, Central Council, PCI; and resource persons Dr. Sarath Chandran, Central Council Member, PCI, and Dr. Akash Marathakam.

I had the pleasure of visiting Megh Malhar, MAHE’s National Photo Contest Exhibition - a celebration of creativity, perspective and storytelling through photography.

The two categories —Megh Malhar: Fun and Fury of Rain and My MAHE, My Campus —bring together striking visual narratives capturing nature, culture, human emotions and everyday moments.

What impressed me most was how these photographs invite us to pause, observe and reflect. A photograph can communicate what words sometimes cannot; it preserves a moment, evokes an emotion and deepens our engagement with the world around us.

It is our endeavour to nurture platforms such as Megh Malhar that sensitise our minds to the beauty and joy that life offers, even as we pursue excellence in other spheres. Creativity is a vital ingredient in innovation and leadership.

My congratulations to all participants, organisers and award winners for making this exhibition a vibrant celebration of talent and imagination.
