Anveshana: Researchers’ Forum of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, BHU, organized the second edition of 2-day workshop on Academic Writing and Publication Skills on 24–25 July, 2026. Day 1 focused on the writing aspect of academic writing. The session began with a formal address by Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Head, Department of English, and was led by Dr. Vivek Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
Pre-workshop feedback on difficulties in paragraph structuring, coherence, drafting, editing, proofreading, sentence structure and many more was analysed to identify key problem areas, followed by a discussion of participants’ perspectives. The session covered common writing issues such as fragments, run-on sentences, weak sentence and strong sentences, with clear examples.
Participants were asked to submit a paragraph from their own writing during registration. These paragraphs were anonymously redistributed at the end of the session. Working in small groups, students assessed each other’s paragraphs using the session’s guidelines, provided peer feedback, and then returned the drafts to the original writers for revision and improvement.
The second day of English Department, workshop on Academic Writing & Publication Skills focused on “Navigating the Research Landscape with Web Sources & AI” was led by Prof. Bhaskar Mukherjee, Head, Library & Information Sciences.
He guided participants through key research platforms—Open Access Directory (OATD), ETHOS, Semantic Scholar, Web of Science, and more—showing how to locate dissertations, articles, and previously published work in their area. He also demonstrated practical search strategies to enhance scholars’ ability to find relevant literature efficiently.
It concluded with Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Head of the Department, formally thanking the speaker and participants. He highlighted key takeaways from the session and announced that follow-up workshops will be organized to track students’ progress and application of these skills.
