The International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research on Technology, Education, and Climate Change (ICMRTECC) was held on 11–12 November 2025 in Madrid, Spain. Organized by TheIIER and its collaborators, the event brought together academicians and researchers from different fields. The venue for this year’s conference was the Montegancedo Campus of the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

We are pleased to share that Dr. Md. Raihan, Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, represented our department at this prestigious international platform. His participation and paper presentation stand as a proud moment for all of us, reflecting both his dedication to academic excellence and the growing presence of our department in global academic forums.

Dr. Raihan’s engagement at the conference provided him with valuable exposure, meaningful academic interactions, and an opportunity to connect with scholars from diverse backgrounds. During his stay, he also visited several important places in Spain, enriching his cultural and academic experience. Such international interactions contribute greatly to broadening perspectives and enhancing teaching and research quality back home.

The department appreciates and congratulates Dr. Raihan for successfully presenting his research and for carrying the name of our department with dignity and professionalism. His participation not only added to his own academic journey but also brought honour, visibility, and recognition to the Department of Arabic.

"Arabic Language: A Global Bridge for Culture and Knowledge - Banaras Hindu University Celebrates World Arabic Language Day"

The Department of Arabic, Faculty of Arts, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, organized an inspiring online event to commemorate World Arabic Language Day 2024. The program was presided over by Prof. Mujeebur Rahman, Head, Department of Arabic, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The session was conducted by Dr. Quamer Shaban, Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, BHU.
The event featured Dr. Ali Abdulaziz Aljubailan, Professor of Linguistics at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Dr. Aljubailan highlighted the evolution of Arabic grammar, its linguistic significance, and the collaborative efforts of Arabs and non-Arabs in enriching the language. He emphasized the global stature of Arabic, which serves as an official language for numerous regional and international organizations, including the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. He further asserted that Arabic, with its rich literary and communicative versatility, possesses the potential to emerge as a global language in the era of globalization.
Prof. Mujeebur Rahman, in his presidential address, remarked, “Arabic is not just a language of religion but a repository of knowledge and culture. It transcends regional boundaries, uniting enthusiasts and scholars worldwide. Its role as a language of diplomacy, literature, and cultural exchange remains unparalleled.”
Other notable speakers included Dr. Muzaffar Alam, former Dean, School of Arab Studies, EFL University, Hyderabad, who reflected on the challenges and prospects of Arabic in the modern era, and Dr. Ishrat Ali Mulla, former Head, Department of Arabic and Persian, University of Calcutta, who emphasized Arabic’s academic, diplomatic, and communicative significance on a global scale.
Research scholars from BHU, Ahmed Raza and Shakir Hussain, presented thought-provoking papers on the relevance and necessity of Arabic language and literature in today’s world.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Md. Raihan, Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, BHU, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, and attendees.
The program witnessed active participation from prominent scholars, including Dr. Anzar Nadvi, Dr. Thama Faisal, Dr. Mahmood Abdulrab Mirza, Dr. Shamim Nizami, Dr. Raisuddin, and Dr. Jaber, making it a memorable and intellectually enriching occasion.
The Department of Arabic at BHU reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the Arabic language as a bridge of cultural and intellectual exchange, showcasing its relevance and potential as a universal medium of communication.

The Department of Arabic, Banaras Hindu University, under the banner of Al-Nadi Al-Arabi (The Arabic Club), successfully organized an insightful guest lecture on "Why We Learn Arabic Language? A Post-Globalization Indian Perspective" (لماذا نتعلم اللغة العربية: وجهة نظر هندية يعد العولمة) on 26th November 2024. The lecture was delivered by the eminent scholar Dr. Mujeeb Akhtar Al-Nadawi, Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, Delhi University.
The program commenced with an opening address and a warm welcome by Dr. Quamar Shaban, faculty member, Department of Arabic, BHU. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mujeeb Akhtar for accepting the invitation and shared a few words about the importance of fostering academic discussions on Arabic language and its relevance.
Dr. Mujeeb Akhtar Al-Nadawi’s lecture was a masterful exploration of the journey of the Arabic language, from its classical roots to its modern standard form. He highlighted Arabic’s unparalleled contributions to global civilization in the fields of science, literature, philosophy, and more.
The speaker eloquently described the importance of Arabic as the language of the Qur’an, emphasizing its spiritual and cultural significance for Muslims worldwide. He also focused on the practical relevance of Arabic in the contemporary era, particularly in light of globalization. Arabic, he explained, is a language of economic opportunity, offering vast career prospects in fields such as academia, translation, tourism, international relations, and the media.
Dr. Al-Nadawi shed light on the demand for Arabic professionals in India and abroad, particularly in the Gulf countries, Europe, and other regions, where the Arabic language serves as a vital medium for communication and commerce. He inspired students to view Arabic not just as a subject of academic pursuit, but as a gateway to global career opportunities and a deeper understanding of diverse cultures.
Dr. Md. Raihan, another esteemed faculty member of the Department of Arabic, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Dr. Al-Nadawi for his enlightening lecture and to the audience for their enthusiastic participation.
This event was a testament to Al-Nadi Al-Arabi’s commitment to promoting Arabic language and culture through meaningful academic programs. The lecture inspired students to embrace Arabic as both a spiritual and professional asset, leaving an indelible mark on all attendees.

On 5th September 2024, the Department of Arabic at Banaras Hindu University organized a special Teachers' Day celebration, led by both students and PhD scholars. The event featured Dr. Mugees Ahmad from the Persian Department as the guest speaker, who delivered an insightful lecture on the significance of Teachers' Day. He explained the history and reasons behind its celebration, shedding light on the profound role teachers play in shaping the lives of students and society as a whole.
From the Department of Arabic, Dr. Quamar Shaban addressed the gathering, delivering a lecture on the crucial role teachers play in nation-building. He emphasized how educators shape the values, knowledge, and ethics of future generations, contributing directly to the progress of a nation by molding responsible and capable citizens.
Dr. Md. Raihan then delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the role and importance of teachers in Islam. He discussed how, in Islamic tradition, teachers are regarded with immense respect, akin to spiritual guides, as they pass on knowledge that is not only intellectual but also moral and spiritual. He highlighted several sayings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that stress the value of seeking knowledge and honoring one’s teachers.
PhD scholar Zubair Ahmad followed with a heartfelt thank-you speech, expressing gratitude to the department’s teachers for their unwavering support, guidance, and dedication in helping students navigate their academic journeys. He acknowledged how the teachers have been pillars of strength and inspiration for the scholars. Additionally, students from the 1st and 3rd semesters of the Masters program also shared their gratitude, thanking the teachers for their continued mentorship and encouragement.
The event concluded on a warm and appreciative note, with PhD scholars and Masters students presenting gifts to the teachers as a token of their respect and gratitude for the teachers’ constant support and guidance throughout their educational paths.

Today, 06 Aug 2024 was the triumphant conclusion of our departmental orientation program, a day rich with inspiration and meaningful insights. The highlight was a captivating speech by our esteemed guest Dr. Mugees Ahmad, who eloquently underscored the unparalleled importance of the Arabic language. He articulated that Arabic is not just a language like English or German, French and other languages but the very essence of our Deen and cultural heritage. Dr. Ahmad lauded our department for its dynamic initiatives and commended the students, encouraging them to seize every opportunity to engage in such enriching activities.
The day culminated in an engaging discussion on "Job Opportunities in the Arabic Language," featuring spirited participation from PhD scholars and MA students from both first and second years. This interactive session was a testament to the intellectual vibrancy of our department. Dr. Quamar Shaban and Dr. Md. Raihan provided profound insights and practical advice, shedding light on the extensive global opportunities available in the field of Arabic language studies. Their words of wisdom and encouragement resonated deeply with all attendees, leaving them inspired and motivated to pursue excellence in their academic and professional endeavors. Yesterday (05/08/2024) marked the grand success of our departmental orientation program, featuring the esteemed Dr. Rajesh Sarkar as the guest speaker. Dr. Sarkar captivated the audience with an enlightening and detailed introduction to the BHU campus, tracing its illustrious history from its foundation to the present day.
He spotlighted the significant contributions of the Faculty of Arts, with special emphasis on the Departments of Arabic, Urdu, Persian, and Sanskrit. Dr. Sarkar also provided an in-depth overview of the BHU Central Library, showcasing its vast resources and facilities that stand as pillars of academic excellence.
Dr. Sarkar went on to elaborate on the myriad of facilities available at BHU, including state-of-the-art hostels, sports amenities, comprehensive medical services, and numerous campus opportunities. His guidance on how to effectively access and utilize these resources was invaluable. Moreover, he offered strategic advice on securing scholarships, empowering students to fully capitalize on their academic journey at BHU.
