Mr. Ajay Kumar Gautam, Ph.D. Scholar in the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Science, , presented his research at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress 2026, held in Barcelona, Spain. The Congress brought together over 22,000 participants from 127 countries.

Mr. Gautam presented a scientific poster titled “Serum metabolic profiling and in-silico pathway analysis for the rapid differentiation of Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP)”. The work employed NMR-based metabolomics, statistical analysis, and in-silico pathway analysis to identify pathogen-specific metabolic signatures in VAP. The study identified key metabolic discriminators between A. baumannii and P. aeruginosa associated VAP, highlighting their potential as a basis for rapid, species-specific diagnostic triage in the ICU.

The research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Chandan Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, as Supervisor, and Dr. Bikram Kumar Gupta, Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, as Co-Supervisor. The study reflects interdisciplinary collaboration between the Departments of Biochemistry and Anaesthesiology at BHU.

Mr. Gautam's participation was supported by the Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy Cell (SRICC), Banaras Hindu University, through its International Travel Support for Ph.D. Scholars.

Organised by the Department of German Studies, Faculty of Arts, the workshop formed part of an ICSSR-funded project titled “A Trans-disciplinary Exploration of Gendered Youth Slang and Informal Communication Patterns in University Campus: A Comparative Study of EFLU and BHU.” The workshop was convened by Dr Jyoti Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of German Studies.

Rather than treating young people’s language merely as a collection of contemporary expressions, the workshop approached it as a social practice through which identity, relationships, belonging and interpersonal meanings are negotiated.
