Our very own Project Apeiro's moonshot!

India's First Student-led Near Space Experiment is here.
Project Apeiro is all set to deploy a detector using High Altitude Ballooning to determine cosmic radiation flux in the lower stratospheric regions.
Do check out their project here and help spread the word: http://projectapeiro.com/

Wednesday, 16th August, 7 pm. Save the date!

A talk by One of the most prominent physicist in the field of astroseiemology(study stellar Oscillations) Prof. Tim Bedding, an australian astronomer, Head of school of physics at University of Sydney. He also led the discovery, using data from the Kepler space telescope, that red giants oscillate in mixed modes that are directly sensitive to the core properties of the star and can be used to distinguish red giants burning helium in their cores from those that are still only burning hydrogen in a shell.

Venue :Tele-Presence (inside cc), Time :7:00 pm Date :16th August, Wednesday.

A list of resources put up for people interested in understanding few of the contemporary topics in cosmology and high energy physics. If you do know of any resources which have helped you or would be of use, do leave behind a comment.

Here, I will link resources which I have found useful for understanding certain topics in Physics. Cosmology & Inflation Daniel Baumann’s TASI lectures videos, TASI lecture notes, graduat…

What would you want to work on?

Physics has a bit of an image problem. To some, it’s a fascinating and diverse field of study. To others, it’s a trigger word for math anxiety or an instant soporific.

In July, 2016 BITS-Pilani, KK Birla Goa Campus signed a MoU to become a part of SKA-India consortium. SKA stands for Square Kilometre Array which is a large multi billion radio telescope project collaboration between eleven countries. This project aims at building a radio telescope which will be 50 times more sensitive than any other radio instrument currently in use.

As a member of the SKA organization, we will have an opportunity of early involvement and favorable positioning in a huge global science project spanning a wide range of engineering and computing disciplines. It also presents an opportunity to work for a high profile project in the form of internships or thesis.

On November 10th, 2016, the Department of Physics will host the Director-General of SKA Organisation, Prof. Phil Diamond who will deliver a talk on the mission of SKA and the benefits we can gain from our college’s participation.

This talk is a must-attend event for all those interested in contributing towards a global project.

Speaker: Prof. Phil Diamond
Venue: Lecture Theater 1, BITS-Goa
Date & Time: 6:30pm, Thursday, 10th November, 2016

A good read for all students wanting to learn physics :)

Over the past few years, ever since writing "If Susan Can Learn Physics, So Can You", I've been contacted by people from all backgrounds who are inspired and want to learn physics, but don't know where to start, what to learn, what to read, and how to structure their studies...this post is a condens...
