Teaching High Performance Buildings for Net Zero
This programme builds capacity for designing net-zero buildings through a deep understanding of building physics and high-performance design principles. It situates architecture within its broader socio-political and economic contexts, while encouraging sensitive engagement with landscapes and the human and more-than-human communities they support. Participants will explore practical ways to bring these insights into their classrooms through empathetic, interactive, and collaborative teaching practices. The aim is to equip faculty to shape a resilient, just, and equitable built environment.
Four online FDP sessions on Introduction to climate action topics in Architecture, HPB concepts and SDI examples, HPB and significance for students, HPB Case Studies, Resources and Teaching toolkits were conducted. 2 online sessions before and 2 session after in person were conducted as well.
The 3 days in person FDP had 6 modules:
MOD-1 Introduction to HPB, NZE, Climate Change, and Curricular Alignment
MOD - 2 Embodied Carbon
MOD - 3 Heat Transfer and Passive Design - Heat Gain Analysis Software
MOD - 4 Sustainable Active Cooling - Energy Simulation Software
MOD - 5 Vulnerability and Resilience
MOD - 6 Place-based learning (Tour or Site Visit)
Participants completing online and offline FDP sessions will receive IIHS Infosys certification.
