به گزارش روابط عمومی و امور بین‌الملل سازمان نظام دامپزشکی، نخستین روز هفته دامپزشکی با شعار 'دامپزشکی و بهداشت عمومی' آغاز می‌شود.

برگزاری مانور نقش دامپزشکی در مقابله با تهدیدات زیستی با مشارکت سازمان ملی پدافند غیرعامل، برنامه ای است که برای دومین روز از این هفته پیش بینی شده؛ دومین روز از هفته دامپزشکی دامپزشکی و واکنش سریع (دامپزشکی و پدافند غیرعامل) نامگذاری شده است.

براساس این گزارش، سومین روز از هفته دامپزشکی، 'دامپزشکی وحقوق حیوانات' نامگذاری شده که برنامه هایی از جمله برگزاری نشست و جلسات تخصصی توسط ادارات کل دامپزشکی و حفاظت محیط زیست و همچنین برگزاری نشست عمومی با موضوع حقوق حیوانات پیش بینی شده است.

چهارمین روز از هفته دامپزشکی 'دامپزشکی و سلامت جامعه' نامگذاری شده که در این روز، مدیران کل دامپزشکی و روسای شبکه های دامپزشکی شهرستان ها یا مسئولین دفتر نمایندگی ولی فقیه، سخنران پیش از خطبه های نماز جمعه سراسر کشور خواهند بود.

روزهای دوازدهم تا چهاردهم مهرماه نیز به ترتیب با عناوین دامپزشکی و امنیت غذایی، دامپزشکی و نظارت های بهداشتی و دامپزشکی و توسعه پایدار نامگذاری شده اند که در این روزها نیز برگزاری نشست ها و جلسات تخصصی توسط تشکل ها، اتحادیه ها و انجمن های بخش خصوصی مرتبط با موضوع، حضور فعال اکیپ های دامپزشکی و ناظرین شرعی در مراکز عرضه و کشتار دام، برگزاری همایش تخصصی نقش دامپزشکی در سلامت و اقتصاد ملی و تقدیر از پیشکسوتان و زحمتکشان دامپزشکی پیش بینی شده است.

All vets need to be able to carry out basic surgery when they begin their first job – and virtually all high street practices will be equipped to perform simple procedures when animals are brought in.

Veterinary surgeries can join an accreditation or practice standards scheme where they are inspected at least every four years. The surgery can be graded to have core, general practice or veterinary hospital standards.

Practices are judged on many levels from surgical facilities and clinical standards to organisation and management. In some cases, branch surgeries will just carry out consultations and refer all surgery to their main centre.

However, all vets are generally expected to carry out a standard level of surgery such as neutering. It’s a first day skill – neutering is a procedure all vets are expected to carry out from day one. There is a probation period and young vets get support at the start of their career to ensure they are performing these procedures to the required level.

In many high street practices there will also be better qualified vets able to conduct more complex surgery. Vets wanting to become more proficient can take various courses during their career, for example by training for a certificate in surgery at the RVC.

VetCompass (Veterinary Companion Animal Surveillance System) is a collaborative not-for-profit research project between the Royal Veterinary College and University of Sydney that aims to improve companion animal welfare. The project shares anonymised clinical records from veterinary practices for studies that answer key questions about the range and frequency of health problems in companion animals.
VetCompass has grown to become the largest single resource of veterinary epidemiological data on dogs in the UK, currently sharing 4.8 million clinical records covering 770,000 animals (including 391,000 dogs) from over 200 veterinary clinics. (June 2014).
VetCompass ultimately increases our overall health knowledge-base to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment in companion animals. To widen the target audience, VetCompass studies are now available as infographs that present results in a more visually appealing manner. The first two infographs describe the lifespan of various dog breeds and the most common disorders diagnosed in dogs. Future inforgraphs will cover cat health and specific disorders.
