تقاء آموزشکده به دانشکده کشاورزی تا سال 1378 به عنوان یکی از دانشکده های دانشگاه علوم کشاورزی و منابع طبیعی گرگان ادامه داشت. در سال 1387 با سفر دوم استانی ریاست محترم جمهور و هیئت محترم دولت از دانشگاه علوم کشاورزی و منابع طبیعی گرگان منفک گردیده و از مهر 1387 ، تحت عنوان مجتمع آموزش عالی گنبد کاووس فعالیت خود را در 25 رشته تحصیلی در سه مقطع کاردانی، کارشناسی و کارشناسی ارشد، در سه دانشکده، شامل: دانشکده علوم کشاورزی و منابع طبیعی، دانشکده علوم پایه و فنی– مهندسی، دانشکده علوم انسانی و تربیت بدنی با 2500 دانشجو شروع نموده و با اعلام معاونت آموزشی وزارت علوم، تحقیقات و فناوری، از اول اردیبهشت 1390 به دانشگاه گنبد کاووس ارتقاء یافت.
این مجموعه در حال حاضر دارای 51 رشته تحصیلی ( در مقاطع دکتری - کارشناسی ارشد - کارشناسی و کاردانی و سه هزارو 800 نفر) دانشجو می باشد. ضمنا دانشکده فنی – مهندسی دانشگاه واقع در مینودشت از بهمن ماه 1390 با 42 نفر دانشجو در رشته های کاردانی عمران و کارشناسی نرم افزار کامپیوتر فعالیت خود را آغاز نموده است . Ex-Higher Education Complex of Gonbad Kavoos
This complex was affiliated to Mazandarn University under the title of Junior Agriculture College of Gonbad Kavoos covering two courses in post diploma program in 1985 (1364). Then by increasing its courses and promoting its status from junior college to agriculture college, it came under the affiliation of Gorgan University of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources and remaind so till 1999 (1378). In 1387, during the president and his delegations' provincial trip, it was stipulated that the Agriculture College of Gonbad Kavoos be separated into the independant Higher Education Complex of Gonbad Kavoos covering 25 majors, granting Post-Diplomas, Bachelors and masters programs to 2500 students in three colleges namely College of Agriculture Science and Natural Resources, College of Basic Sciences and Engineering and College of Arts and Physical Education. At present, this university comprises 51 educational courses.
