Tæplega 220 skiptinemar víðs vegar að úr heiminum hafa á síðustu dögum verið boðnir velkomnir til Háskóla Íslands með fjölbreyttri og fjörugri dagskrá. Alþjóðasvið og alþjóðafulltrúi Stúdentaráðs hafa staðið að dagskránni sem á að auðvelda nemendum fyrstu skrefin í HÍ.
Í gær kom hópurinn saman í móttöku við Íþróttahús HÍ þar sem Silja Bára R. Ómarsdóttir rektor, Friðrika Harðardóttir, sviðsstjóri Alþjóðasviðs, Katla Ólafsdóttir, forseti Stúdentaráðs, og Cynthia Anne Namugambe, alþjóðafulltrúi Stúdentaráðs, ávörpuðu nemendur. Í ávarpi sínu lagði rektor áherslu á að skiptinemarnir væru frá fyrsta degi hluti af samfélaginu í HÍ og hvernig þeirra sjónarhorn, hugmyndir og reynsla auðguðu háskólasamfélagið. Að ávörpum loknum tók við grillveisla og DJ ANNAMARKAR hélt uppi stuði og stemningu í blíðunni á bak við íþróttahúsið.
Meðal þess sem skiptinemarnir sækja á kynningardögunum eru upplýsingafundir þar sem fulltrúar Alþjóðasviðs, Nemendaráðgjafar og Stúdentaráðs, auk fjölmenningarfulltrúa, kynna þjónustu HÍ og veita nemendum góð ráð og upplýsingar um námið, aðlögun og íslenskt samfélag.
Íslenskan fær líka sitt pláss á dagskránni. Á hraðnámskeiðinu Icelandic in 90 Minutes kynnir Mirko Garofalo, aðjúnkt við íslensku- og menningardeild, íslenskuna fyrir nemendum á lifandi hátt og þau fá tækifæri til að spreyta sig á íslenskum orðum og framburði.
Leiðsögn um háskólasvæðið, karaoke, pöbbkviss, speed friending og mentor-mingle er einnig hluti af dagskránni og skapar tækifæri fyrir nemendur til að kynnast og mynda tengsl innan háskólasamfélagsins.

Nearly 220 exchange students from around the world have been welcomed to the University of Iceland in recent days with a lively and varied programme. The International Division and the International Officer of the Student Council have organised the programme to help students take their first steps at UI.
Yesterday, the students gathered for a Welcome Reception by the University Gym, where Rector Silja Bára R. Ómarsdóttir, Friðrika Harðardóttir, Director of the International Division, Katla Ólafsdóttir, President of the Student Council, and Cynthia Anne Namugambe, International Officer of the Student Council, addressed the group. In her remarks, the Rector emphasised that exchange students are part of the UI community from day one and highlighted how the perspectives, ideas and experiences they bring enrich the University community. After the speeches, the programme continued with a barbecue, with DJ ANNAMARKAR keeping the music and good vibes going in the sunshine behind the University Gym.
As part of the Orientation Days programme, exchange students attend information sessions with representatives from the International Division, Student Counselling Centre and Student Council, as well as the Intercultural Officer. The sessions introduce students to services available at UI and provide useful information and advice on studying at the University, adapting to life in Iceland and Icelandic society.
Icelandic also has its place on the programme. In the Icelandic in 90 Minutes crash course, Mirko Garofalo, Adjunct Lecturer in Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies, gives students a lively introduction to the language and a chance to try their hand at Icelandic words and pronunciation.
Campus tours, karaoke, pub quiz, speed friending and mentor mingle are also part of the programme, creating opportunities for students to get to know one another and build connections within the University community.
