♻️ Exploring the future of waste management in Burgas!
From 16 to 18 June 2026, the CLEAR CITIES project (Interreg Europe) held a three-day interregional event in Burgas, Bulgaria, combining thematic discussions, exchanges of Good Practices, study visits and project coordination activities.
The thematic workshop “Waste 4.0 – Exploring Emerging Technologies for advanced, sustainable and resilient waste management” focused on the potential use of innovative solutions such as the Internet of Things, smart sensors, robotics, blockchain, drones, artificial intelligence, big data and augmented reality.
The programme also included study visits to local waste management initiatives, including an anaerobic installation, a mobile collection point, the planned site of Burgas’ first permanent waste collection point and St. Anastasia Island, described as Bulgaria’s only inhabited plastic-free island.
The event concluded with the CLEAR CITIES Steering Committee, during which partners discussed ongoing pilot activities, policy improvements, communication, financial progress and the next steps of the project.
