Il Conservatorio di Brescia è il secondo in Lombardia dopo quello di Milano e, per offerta formativa e corpo docente tra insegnanti in organico e a contratto, il quarto in Italia. Fa parte del sistema dell’Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale (AFAM), settore parallelo a quello universitario. Fin dalla sua creazione, avvenuta nel 1864 come Civico Istituto Musicale Antonio Venturi, ha perseguito una
vocazione di eccellenza nel campo della formazione professionale dei musicisti, sia in ambito cittadino che dell’intero territorio della Provincia di Brescia. I lusinghieri risultati ottenuti hanno portato nel 1972 alla sua statalizzazione, allargando la sua influenza a livello regionale e interregionale. La successiva trasformazione in Istituto di Alta Formazione Artistica Musicale e Coreutica, avvenuta nel 1999 con la Legge n. 508, ha sancito il prestigioso riconoscimento del livello universitario degli studi impartiti al Marenzio, inserendolo nel piano di riforma del Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università
e della Ricerca. La riorganizzazione delle docenze e dei numerosi corsi ha ulteriormente innalzato il confronto di eccellenza a livello nazionale, portando la struttura bresciana a conquistare qualificate posizioni nella graduatoria nazionale dei Conservatori italiani, con una spiccata apertura internazionale. Un’attività sempre più intensa ha dato modo al Marenzio di offrire ai propri studenti, oltre a una delle più ampie offerte formative oggi disponibili in Italia, una chiara proposta educativa e di inserimento lavorativo professionale nella realtà locale, nazionale ed europea contemporanea. Oltre al supporto dell’attività musicale della città, con formazione di strumentisti per l’Orchestra del Teatro Grande, del Teatro La Scala di Milano (con diverse prime parti) del Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo, dell’Arena di Verona, ha preparato numerosi turnisti di ogni strumento per le sale d’incisione e i gruppi orchestrali di professionisti italiani

ABOUT US The Luca Marenzio Conservatory, situated in a historical building in the city center with an outstanding Music Hall that hosts frescoes by Pietro Da Cemmo dating 1490, offers over 50 artistic and educational courses in the fields of music, training in all instruments, in Composition, Conducting,
Vocal, as well as in Music Educational and Pedagogical studies, New Technologies, Early Music, Jazz and Popular music. The Library contains valuable manuscripts: Benedetto Marcello’s Estro Poetico Armonico, 1724 and others by Hasse, Leo, Galuppi, and rare editions of Mozart, Haydn, Clementi. Our graduates can be found working in important orchestras and theaters in Italy and abroad (Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Arena di Verona, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Europa Galante). The history of our Conservatory goes back to the year 1864, when a private association founded in Brescia the first
Musical Institute offering “free musical education for the people”. Two years later the Institute became Philharmonic and then Civic, named to Antonio Venturi, a patron of arts, Science professor and Violin collector. The Venturi Civic Institute provided high quality training and musical background for the city; famous musicians as Antonio Bazzini and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli attended here their studies. In 1971 the Civic Institute was acknowledged by the Government as a State Conservatory and in 1993 it was named after Luca Marenzio, renowned composer of Madrigals, born in Coccaglio in 1553. Since
1999 the Conservatory was upgraded by AFAM government system to Higher Education Institute (HEI) and the diplomas issued are now validated as university degrees. It is now one of the leading Music Institutes in northern Italy with more than 500 students and 75 teachers. The Brescia Conservatory
also has a branch (founded in 1978) in Darfo Boario Terme, a town near Iseo Lake, surrounded by mountains, 60 km from Brescia.
