Florence is famous for its landmarks, but it’s the quiet gardens tucked behind stone walls, the viewpoints reached only after a walk uphill, and the streets where the crowds thin out that reveal a different side of the city.

With summer students soon arriving in Florence, we’re curious.
Do you have a favorite hidden spot? A personal pearl you always go back to?

Share it with us and with those about to discover the city for the first time.

Sketchbook classes head across the Arno, into Oltrarno, literally “the other side” of Florence.

Here, students draw surrounded by some of the city’s most photogenic and painterly views. Detailed florals in the Rose Garden or the Iris Garden, wide Tuscan landscapes, shifting light and color. And if you turn your back on Florence’s monuments, the view opens onto cypress-lined hills, quiet and green, where it feels like the countryside has taken over.

A different perspective on the city, and the perfect place to slow down and draw.

Sunny days hit differently in Florence.

Light-filled streets, open windows, people everywhere, and that feeling that you should probably stay outside a little longer. Walking becomes the plan. Coffee turns into a break that lasts an hour. Every corner looks like it belongs on your camera roll.

Nothing overdone, just the city doing its thing.
Spring sliding into summer, and Florence fully in its mood.

The Marist–LdM Class of 2026 celebrated Commencement at the historic Istituto degli Innocenti, marking the culmination of four years filled with growth, creativity, resilience, and discovery.

Their time here was about more than academics; it was about discovering new ways of seeing, living, and learning. About finding the courage to leave behind what felt familiar in order to be challenged by new places, people, and ideas, and embracing the uncertainty that often comes with transformation and growth.

Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2026. Thank you for the passion, talent, and spirit you brought to this community. We are proud to have been part of your journey and excited to see all that lies ahead for you.

Last week, we gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of our LdM Certificate Program students as they completed an unforgettable chapter abroad.

What began as a journey into a new culture became something much deeper: friendships formed across borders, perspectives broadened through experience, and memories shaped by the everyday beauty of learning in Italy.

As you move forward, may you carry with you the curiosity that inspired you to study abroad; the desire to discover new ways of observing, listening to, and relating to the world around you; the confidence to embrace new challenges; and the openness to keep discovering both the world, and yourselves, wherever life leads next, always chasing questions more than answers.

Congratulations to all our Certificate Program students on this important milestone. Your LdM family will always be cheering you on.

As part of Nurturing the Future – Nutrire il Futuro, on Saturday May 9th, Istituto Lorenzo de’ Medici celebrated the expressive power of the performing arts through a special ballet performance held at Istituto degli Innocenti.

Set within the historic Renaissance spaces of the institution, LdM Performing Arts students brought movement, emotion, and storytelling to life through a performance that reflected both technical discipline and artistic sensitivity. The ballet became a dialogue between contemporary creativity and the timeless beauty of Florence, highlighting the role of performance as an essential part of cultural and personal expression.

More than a performance, the evening embodied the spirit of Nurturing the Future: creating space for young artists to grow, connect, and share their voices through art. Photo Credits: Simone Stanislai

Looking back at Saturday, May 9th, and the closing of the academic year with Nurturing the Future 2026, a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community.
Hosted at the historic Istituto degli Innocenti, this year’s end-of-year exhibition showcased student work across Creative Arts and Design disciplines, transforming the Renaissance spaces into a vibrant dialogue between heritage and contemporary expression. From installations and photography to fashion, interiors, jewelry, and live ballet performances, the event highlighted the talent and vision of our student community.

The celebration continued into the evening with a special Fashion Event at Fondazione Zeffirelli, where emerging student designers presented their final collections in a memorable finale offering an inspiring journey through creativity, expression, and self-discovery.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this inspiring day in Florence.

What will happen to the items you leave behind for the Leave & Share event?

With the event coming up this Friday, May 15th, we would like to show you how your donations can be reused and appreciated by future students.

This unique initiative gives new students the opportunity to pick up useful items left behind by former students, including everyday essentials and hidden gems waiting for a new home.

Thanks to the participation of our alumni, we are able to give pre-loved items a second life while supporting new LdM students as they begin their journey.

It is an engaging and meaningful experience that highlights the importance of circularity and reminds us how creating new opportunities can strengthen our sense of community.

We are happy to announce that the Leave & Share initiative is back:

Friday, May 15th, 2026
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Hope to see you there!
