A new Fall Semester means a new set of takeovers are on the way! Join Rutzel Montiel-Juarez tomorrow for Takeover Tuesday 🤩

Originally from Hendersonville, North Carolina, Rutzel is a senior at UNC-Charlotte majoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Journalism. She is currently in Florence wrapping up her initial 3-week intensive PR course to kick off her 15-week semester abroad!

Always drawn to Florence for its art, history, and beauty, Rutzel is using this semester to step out of her comfort zone and fully immerse herself in a new culture. She is already discovering that you can experience the city's historic magic while doing everyday things—like getting her Marvel fix and watching Spider-Man: Brand New Day with friends inside the stunning, historic Giunti Odeon cinema.

Want to see what a day in her Florentine life looks like? Tune in to our Stories tomorrow to follow along with Rutzel’s takeover! 📱✨

As our summer program winds down here in Florence, it is time for the final Takeover Tuesday of the season!

Meet Alana Turoff and Natelli Herrera, two University of Missouri Journalism-Strategic Communication students wrapping up their time studying abroad in Florence. Both hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Alana was drawn to Florence to immerse herself in Italian culture and challenge herself in a new environment (fun fact: her favorite animal is a seal! 🦭). Natelli, who loves Pilates, baking, and spending time outdoors, has cherished connecting with new people and seeing the world from fresh perspectives throughout her travels.

We are excited to have them take over and share a look back at their incredible summer so far here in Florence!

Are you prepping for your own study abroad program with us this upcoming fall? Then tune in tomorrow for advice from Alana and Natelli on how to make the most of your time in Florence.

Our students are trading traditional classrooms for the coastal vibes of Liguria! ☀️

The new FUA Cinque Terre Program in La Spezia has officially wrapped up its inaugural summer session, giving students a deeper look at real Italian community life, local traditions, and regional industries. Best of all, our new Two City option allows students to experience both Florence and the coast in a single semester. When we picture studying abroad, we often imagine travel, independence, and unforgettable experiences. But what happens when everything changes overnight?

In this week's Finding Florence Friday Feature, spring semester study abroad student Laurel Swanz shares the story of how a broken leg just days into her semester forced her to let go of the study abroad experience she had planned, and embrace one she never expected.

"Letting Go of Plan A" is a powerful reflection on resilience, community, and discovering that personal growth often comes through life's biggest setbacks rather than its biggest successes.

Sometimes the most meaningful journeys begin when Plan A falls apart.
