Le Arti Orafe Jewellery School & Academy

Studying, learning, experimenting without limits or boundaries. Established in Florence in 1985 by Giò Carbone, Le Arti Orafe (in English: “The Art of Jewellery”) was the first Italian school devoted to contemporary jewellery, conceived along original lines that combine technical training, contemporary design, artistic research. Our completely innovatory teaching methods is continuosly updated and in perpetual evolution, has left behind the old educational stereotypes, and has invented, tested and refined a creative, personalised way of learning, without losing sight of the acquisition of the techniques and concepts. LAO has always stood out because of its activities in promoting jewellery culture in the widest and most complete sense of the expression, and for many years organizes exhibitions, conferences, meetings related with contemporary research jewellery. Since 2005 the school organizes “PREZIOSA”, the international exhibition devoted to Contemporary Jewellery, along with the contest/exhibition PREZIOSA YOUNG.

A new space for art. A new chapter for a collection.

LAO was pleased to be present at the opening of the new home of the Collezione Roberto Casamonti at Palazzo San Giorgio in Florence.

A collection is never only a group of works.
It is a way of looking, connecting different languages, creating relationships between art, space and people.

An occasion to encounter works, ideas and the people behind a new cultural project — and to celebrate its beginning together at Teatro Nazionale.

For us, looking at art is always part of learning how to look.

A comma marks a pause, but the sentence continues.

For her Third Year Project, Wen Yin explores the comma as a symbol of transition — a moment between memory and change, between the end of one journey and the beginning of another.

Working with wood and silver, the sign becomes material: the silver comma enters a natural crack in the wood, almost holding the fracture together.

A pause, not an ending.

Reading widens the imaginative field. A word, an image, a contrast can continue beyond the page and become the beginning of an idea.

In Moby-Dick, whiteness moves between beauty and dread. Marble, camellias and pearls evoke purity; the whale and the white shark reveal its unsettling force.

A visual constellation held together by the tension between purity and fury.
