⚜️ Art History Lecture w/ Tatiana Popova - Ivan Nikolaevič Kramskoy: Portrait of a Woman ⚜️ Explore the story behind one of Russian art’s most enigmatic masterpieces: Ivan Nikolaevič Kramskoy’s Portrait of an Unknown Woman, often called the “Russian Gioconda.”

A leading figure in the Peredvizhniki (The Wanderers) movement, Kramskoy broke with the rigid conventions of the Russian Academy in pursuit of a more honest and human approach to art. His life, ideas, and role in the development of Russian realism provide the broader context for this exploration of one of his most celebrated paintings. Through this lecture, FAA Graduate Tatiana Popova Tatiana Popova considers Kramskoy’s use of composition, contrast, and gaze, while also touching on the artist’s broader work and the artistic world in which the portrait was created!
