The regeneration of the Santa Chiara Convent envisions the historic complex as an integrated system of architecture, open spaces, and landscape, with the aim of restoring it to the city as a place where historical heritage and new civic functions coexist. The project includes the restoration of the existing buildings, which will accommodate student housing, together with the construction of a new residential Social Rehabilitation Centre “Dopo di Noi“. As part of this broader regeneration strategy, construction of the Santa Chiara Arena officially begins today with the groundbreaking ceremony. Conceived as a new open-air auditorium for the cultural programme and events of the Fondazione di Piacenza e Vigevano , the project stems from a careful interpretation and enhancement of the late sixteenth-century archaeological remains uncovered on the site. These historic foundations become the generative core of the architectural design, forming an integral part of the new arena. The dialogue between the site’s historical traces and the contemporary architectural intervention creates a new public space dedicated to performances, concerts, public gatherings, and cultural events, establishing a vibrant civic destination for the social and cultural life of the city.
