Addressing sustainability in the cargo industry: Public Affairs Strategy at UPS
How do you balance operational needs and sustainability in a critical and multi-layered local context?
In this Field Work, MIB Regular Class students acted as Public Affairs Managers for UPS to develop a strategy addressing complex scenarios in cargo industry regulations, also in case of restrictions to operations. The project involved analysing operational impacts and mitigation opportunities, stakeholder positions, media sentiment, and regulatory risks, while ensuring company competitiveness and commitment with its sustainability commitments.
Students mapped key stakeholders, defined strategic objectives, and proposed actionable measures, including advocacy, coalition building, CSR initiatives, and targeted communications, supported by timelines and evaluation metrics. The goal was to provide UPS leadership with a practical, ethically compliant, and evidence-based Public Affairs plan.
Guided by Marzia Picciano, Public Affairs Manager Italy, Spain and Portugal at UPS, and supported by the tutor roberto meco, students explored how public affairs and strategic communication can safeguard business operations while reinforcing corporate responsibility.
