13/04/2022

Ever since the opening of the so-called “post-Cold War” era, all established forms of collective organisation and mobilisation have undergone unprecedented transformations, from the crisis of mass parties to the alleged end of the party form (or of the party system itself). The war, the pandemic, and other crises that recurrently hit Western and non-Western societies in various ways and to different degrees have highlighted the structural instability of the world we live in. New forms of right-wing populism are thriving and posing new challenges to the pursuit of emancipatory goals. In this scenario, there is an evident and urgent need to rethink how emancipation can be organised. New forms of collective practices are required to push forward the agenda for a better and more just future.

The inaugural edition of the Lake Como Summer School in Critical Theory of Society will gather scholars of renowned reputation to discuss these themes from different perspective.

📌Description

The Children, Sustainability and Social Justice Summer School aims to widen the perspective on sustainability, interrogating the role that children can and must have in projecting a fairer, sustainable world and investigating the deep, structural connections between education, social justice and sustainability.

Sustainability is a word that has been dominating debates on the future of mankind for many years now. Yet, public discussions on sustainability have progressively been narrowed to its technological dimension and the concept itself, once multifaceted and rich of deeply political implication, has been recaptured by the mainstream capitalist discourse. The current pandemic, however, showed how sustainability cannot be severed from issues concerning the justice of the polis and its future.

The Children, Sustainability and Social Justice Summer School will offer an international and interdisciplinary training programme for PhD students and early-career academics, with the aim to enhance knowledge on themes related to social justice, children and sustainability. It aims to create an environment conducive to critical thinking and to support exchange opportunities and methodological discussion. It will include lectures, seminars and group-work sessions led by scholars of national and international standing.

Introduction to subfossil invertebrates from lake sediments: a laboratory-based school
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

15-17 November, 2021

DESCRIPTION

In the age of changing climate, it is extremely important to understand and predict climate changes and to implement measures that could minimize the negative effects of human economic activity leading to a climate warming. Paleolimnology is one of the main tools used in the reconstruction of climatic conditions prevailing in the Quaternary.

The main objective of the International Autumn School is the presentation of paleoecological methods to study the sediments of lakes as well as other lentic environments. All participants are invited to join to laboratory (chemical lab and microscope lab) and learn about the usefulness of invertebrates remains (e.g., shell, head, resting egg and chitinous parts) deposited in freshwater sediments.

Registration for the summer school “DEPThS: Field-based summer school on subduction forearc dynamics” (6-10 September 2021) is now open 😁(https://summerschoolbicocca.com/21-DEPThS.php).
The course is aimed primarily at PhD students in the various fields of Earth Sciences and addresses the dynamics of subduction forearcs through a highly multidisciplinary approach, with particular emphasis on exhumation processes and the deep carbon cycle. It includes one day of classroom lectures in Milan and four days of field lessons based on geological observations along key transects across the 🏔Western Alps, one of the best-studied fossil subduction zones on Earth.
Lectures will integrate petrological, tectonic, and stratigraphic evidence along the analyzed transects with the results of recent geophysical experiments on the deep tectonic structure of the Alps.
Geologists, petrologists, and seismologists from University of Milano-Bicocca, ISTerre Grenoble, and University of Torino will interact all together with the students both in the classroom and in the field while hiking and discussing in front of intellectually stimulating outcrops in the breathtaking alpine landscape. The summer school is funded by DISAT-UniMiB within the framework of the Departments of Excellence Project. Don't miss the next edition of GEM Summer School!
https://summerschoolbicocca.com/21-GEM.php

GEM (Green Energy Management) Summer School offers a broad experience in the context of circular economy with a particular focus on new energy technologies and environmental issues. The main aim of GEM is to provide international students with a context sensitive first-class training in the field of Green Energy Management and renewable resources.

GEM - Sustainable Energy Transition is composed of 6 learning modules:

🟢Sustainability of Energy Transition - World and Europe Energy scenario
🟢Economical and Financial issues
🟢Technical applications
🟢Theory, Culture and Politics
🟢New experiences - From GEM Alumni and young graduates
🟢GEM meets Companies and institutions

In the past ten editions of GEM, students from all over the world (East and West Europe, Africa, Asia, South America) have shared classrooms and field experience, making connections and proposing new projects. GEM is now managed by the GEM Network, a pool of scientists and professionals, who started since 2013 with a wide project on Green Energy in the educational and research sector.

All our teachers have a wide experience in energy management, both conventional and renewable, and are perfectly aware of their mission in communicating knowledge and skills.

Our vision is ambitious. We are just a drop, but as the drop may dig the rock, little by little we may help changing our world in a sustainable and liveable one.
