Expert Design Talks. Shaping Relations Otherwise

We’re excited to welcome Josina Vink for an online lecture exploring how service design can help rethink the relationships that shape our social and ecological systems.

Starting from the context of today’s interconnected global crises, the talk invites us to move beyond the idea that people, organizations, and systems exist separately. Drawing on relational perspectives from Sociology and Anthropology, the lecture introduces four principles of relationality in service design: how actors are formed through relationships, how service systems emerge from complex entanglements, how agency arises through interaction, and how change unfolds through ongoing processes of becoming.
The session will also discuss what these ideas mean in practice, offering reflections on how designers can engage differently with the systems and relationships they help shape.

We’re excited to welcome Davide Posillipo (Komebi Studio) for a lecture exploring how a collaborative approach between Service Design and Data Engineering can amplify the impact of data-driven services.

The talk explores a holistic perspective on data that spans from its generation and management to service integration. By highlighting real-world applications, it defines strategies to shape the Post-Technical Data Practitioner, a hybrid professional capable of bridging and evolving this intersection.

The Bloomsbury Handbook of SERVICE DESIGN: Plural perspectives and a critical contemporary agenda” edited by Lara Penin, Alison Prendiville, and Daniela Sangiorgi.
To connect with the book’s international community of co-authors and readers, the launch will unfold through two online events in February 2026, followed by three in-person events in Milan, London, and New York.

🔍 Introducing Design and Research Methods
Coordinated by Professor Stefana Broadbent, this course equips students with the theoretical foundations and practical tools needed to conduct rigorous research within design projects. From secondary research and contextual analysis to ethnographic fieldwork, stakeholder engagement, and project evaluation, students explore how research informs every stage of the design process—grounded in key concepts from anthropology and sociology.

🚀 Innovation Studio – coordinated by Professor Valentina Auricchio, the course aims to guide students in the development of a product-service. Through a methodology that integrates research, scenario creation, design and prototyping, project development, and implementation, students learn to work in multidisciplinary teams to realize a system consisting of a physical product prototype (touchpoint), a service, and its communication.
