LIM - standing for Laboratorio di Informatica Musicale (Music Informatics Laboratory) - is one of the main labs of the Department of Computer Science, Università degli Studi di Milano. It includes 4 rooms equipped with music, multimedia and computer devices. Established in 1985, under the direction of its founder Goffredo Haus LIM hosted composers and renowned experts such as Angelo Paccagnini, An
tonio Josè Rodriguez Selles, Franco Donatoni and Dante Tanzi. During 30 years of activity, LIM carried out international projects and established important collaborations. Among others, it is worth mentioning: Teatro alla Scala of Milan, Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow, RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana, RSI Radiotelevisione Svizzera italiana, Orchestra Verdi di Milano, IEEE Computer Society, Ricordi Historic Archives, and the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities. Besides, LIM worked with recording industries, broadcasting companies, editors, software houses, internet companies, music producers, and musical instruments manufacturing industries. LIM played a fundamental role in the development of IEEE 1599, an international standard approved by IEEE in 2008 aiming at a comprehensive description of music in XML format.
