In today's we are going to talk about a great environmentalist, Wangari Muta Maathai. An environmentalist, feminist and political activist, Kenyan-born Dr. Maathai was the founder of the Green Belt Movement, an indigenous, grassroots, non-governmental organization focused on integrating sustainable development with women’s rights. The Green Belt Movement has planted over 45 million trees🌲 across Kenya to combat deforestation, stop soil erosion, and generate income for women and their families. Wangari Muta Maathai was awarded the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize "for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace", making her the first African woman to receive a Nobel Award.
