The best thing about studying Design for the Built Environment (DBE) is that it covers many different subjects related to Architecture, Interior Design, Product Design, and Digital Design. I learn how to create sustainable and environmentally friendly spaces. It's interesting because I get a broad understanding of how everything is connected in the built environment. This helps me in developing skills that are really useful in the design industry and gave me a well-rounded education. Plus, I meet and work with all kinds of people from different backgrounds, which makes it even more exciting and diverse.
It doesn't just concentrate on design challenges; it also addresses social issues and strives to find improved design solutions that benefit society. Personally, I am particularly drawn to the field of “digital design” because it offers the chance to deeply understand users and create solutions that cater to their specific needs.
Based on my own experiences, I can confidently say that living in Naples is both fulfilling and exciting. I've had plenty of chances to make genuine friends and explore a wide range of captivating places, both modern and traditional, with rich cultural heritage. The city's vibrant atmosphere has allowed me to enjoy delicious and affordable food at any time.
However, I did face some challenges when I first moved to Naples. Not many locals speak English fluently and dealing with bureaucracy and traffic can be frustrating. But despite these drawbacks, I found Naples to be an inspiring city that brings unexpected surprises and memorable moments every day. The people of Naples are incredibly generous and understanding, and their warmth and friendliness are often more noticeable compared to other parts of Italy.
I am really interested in starting a career in BIM (Building Information Modeling) industry in Europe. So, I want to do my internship and Thesis on BIM Process and if possible, I will do my Ph.D. on BIM Technologies in Europe.

Claudia Lavopa / Italian
Current student from the MSc DBE II year
Former studies: bachelor’s degree in architecture, at the Università degli Studi di Udine, Italy.
For me the most interesting aspect of studying at DBE is, without any doubt, having the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, doing projects with colleagues that have a different background from mine, and grab the chance to sign up for studying abroad, surely has helped me to broaden my horizons.
I love that Naples is really a unique city, with a lot of culture to discover, plenty of architectural sites to visit and a lot of artistic events to go to. All combined with amazing people and food.

Now I'm in Argentina, for a semester within a student’s exchange program, to carry out my final dissertation and I'm having a really good time. It's a unique opportunity and an incredible experience.
For my future I envision myself going abroad for a certain period of my life, learning new ways of designing, getting in touch with various countries and cultures and then going back to my country.

Studying at DBE offers a fascinating opportunity to exchange knowledge with a diverse group of individuals. The possibility of interacting not only with professors who possess professional expertise but also with colleagues from various parts of the world can greatly enrich person’s educational experience.
Living in Naples is a delight experience. From the mouth-watering cuisine and warm-hearted locals to the stunning architecture and rich history, every corner holds hidden treasures. Exploring the streets unveils historical gems, while the university workshops provide immersive opportunities to connect with the city's vibrant soul.
In terms of my future, I am determined to continue my studies in Italy, as it offers a rich educational environment in the field of architecture and design. I have a strong desire to further enhance my knowledge and gain valuable experience in these areas.

Students can have a distinctive and exciting experience while studying Design for the Built Environment in Naples. Naples itself is well-known for its extensive history, vibrant culture, and stunning architecture, giving it an ideal context for this type of study. Studying at DBE also exposes you to a vibrant and enthusiastic group of architects, designers, and artists. Numerous design-related conferences, exhibitions, and workshops are held throughout the city, giving students the ability to network with professionals and learn more about the field. The combination of theory and practice is another fascinating feature. DBE offers the perfect setting for experiential learning. Students can work on design projects that directly address urban difficulties faced by the city, like revitalizing historic neighbourhoods or creating sustainable public spaces. Students benefit from developing practical skills, understanding the intricacies of the built environment better, and developing a sense of social responsibility as they contribute to the growth of the city through an experiential learning approach.
From medieval castles, Baroque palaces, and modernist buildings to ancient Roman ruins, Naples is home to a wide variety of architectural styles. Students gain a concrete understanding of the development of design in the built environment through the direct exploration of these architectural places. Naples is a lively, energetic city that is constantly in motion. The city's distinctive urban fabric, winding streets, and bustling marketplaces create a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere, which inspires innovation and creative thinking. Naples is also close to other Italian architectural and cultural treasures including Pompeii, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast. These adjacent locations give students more chances to learn about and appreciate how design interacts with the surrounding environment. Naples is renowned for its vibrant sense of belonging and friendliness. Known as "Napoletana," the residents are renowned for their kindness and hospitality. Living in Naples gives you the opportunity to become fully absorbed in this friendly neighbourhood, framing relationships, and taking in the true warmth of the local culture.
I would like to pursue further studies in Naples (Ph.D.). Later, I would return to my country.
