The next seminar of The I-LanD Seminar Series – 4th Edition (2nd semester) will explore how names are key to the construction and representation of individual and collective identity.

Bringing together scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds, ranging from onomastics to sociolinguistics and geography, the discussion will focus on naming practices as forms of decolonial resistance, gender performativity, cultural and linguistic reappropriation, and literary characterization and interpretation. The seminar will examine not only how personal names, placenames, fictional names, and brand names denote identity, but also how they become socially embedded acts performed across cultural communities, language varieties, and textual and media genres.

Edited by Bronwen Hughes (University of Naples Parthenope) and Margaret Rasulo (University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli).

This special issue invites contributions on how truth value is attributed, contested, and put to strategic use through images in contemporary communication across platformed public spheres. Particular attention is given to the ways in which multimodal artefacts circulate as forms of "evidence", becoming focal points for polarised and discriminatory conflict in digital environments. The issue welcomes submissions that engage critically with these dynamics through Social Media Critical Discourse Studies and Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis, as well as through other methodological approaches addressing discrimination in platformed contexts.
