Great news for sustainable innovation in the Mediterranean: GREENFISH is approved !

We are pleased to announce that the ARCES project GREENFISH ♻️ has been officially approved under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme.

This important milestone places GREENFISH among the 49 projects selected to support the green transition across the Mediterranean, backed by over €113 million in EU funding 🇪🇺.

The programme brings together hundreds of organisations from 15 countries, working collectively to accelerate climate adaptation, promote sustainable innovation and strengthen environmental resilience.

GREENFISH (B_T_2.4_0282) sees ARCES acting as Lead Partner.

Aligned with strategies for the transition towards a Circular economy (SO 2.4), the project achieved an excellent score of 89.5.

GREENFISH aims to transform over one million tonnes of fish waste in the Mediterranean into high value-added products such as biostimulants, chitosan, and sustainable feed.

The project involves partners from 7 countries and includes the launch of pilot plants and the creation of a transnational cluster to drive innovation in the blue economy 🔵.

The official list of approved projects is available here:
https://www.interregnextmed.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Annex-1_Awarded-applications.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com

This result is even more outstanding considering the highly competitive call: out of 649 proposals submitted, only 49 projects were approved by the Monitoring Committee meeting in Brussels on 5–6 May 2026.

Among them, two projects involve ARCES, a truly remarkable achievement.

We are proud to be part of this international effort and look forward to turning shared ambitions into concrete impact for a more sustainable Mediterranean future.

We would like to thank the Interreg NEXT MED Programme Managing Authority for appreciating our project, and above all all the partners for their outstanding participation.

Mapping Marine Pollution: New Data Release for the Black Sea Region 🌊

🧪 We are pleased to announce the completion of the WP2/D2.2 Database under the framework of the Black Sea SIERRA Project (https://www.incdpm.org/blackseasierra-project), a comprehensive laboratory and in situ dataset dedicated to identifying regional marine water pollution types across the North, West, and South regions of the Black Sea.

This database serves as the foundation for Deliverable D7 📌, providing critical insights into:

• Pollution Fingerprinting: Identifying specific contaminant types and their distribution 📍

• Indicator Selection: Establishing relevant environmental indicators to monitor the long-term health of the basin.

• Spatial Analysis: Our latest sampling maps visualize the extensive reach of our in situ campaigns, covering diverse marine environments from the coastline to the open sea.

By harmonizing water and sediment analysis results, this work offers a clearer picture of the anthropogenic pressures 🏭 facing the Black Sea today.

A huge thank you 🙏 to the laboratory teams and researchers who made these field campaigns a success!

Special thanks to our partners 🤝:
• INCDPM (National Institute for Research and Development in Environmental Protection) – Project Coordinator 🇷🇴
• IO-BAS (Institute of Oceanology – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences) 🇧🇬
• MBNAR – Responsible for the fieldwork 🚤
• UkrSCES (Ukrainian Scientific Centre of Ecology of the Sea) 🇺🇦
• ARCES University College – Leading training curricula and data systems 🎓
