🍀 Last Saturday, IPH students visited the Concentration Camp in Fossoli. About six kilometres from Carpi (Fossoli) the camp built in 1942 by the Royal Army to imprison enemy soldiers is still visible. In December 1943 the site was transformed by the Italian Social Republic into a concentration camp for Jews. From March 1944 it became a Police and Transit Camp (Polizei und Durchgangslager), used by the SS as an antechamber to the N**i Lagers.

📚This historical site is an exceptional stone witness that preserves traces of the events that characterized the central years of the 20th century. On 22nd February 1944, a convoy departed from here to Auschwitz and among the 650 prisoners transferred was Primo Levi, author of “If This is a Man” a work of memoir written between December 1945 and January 1947. It represents the author’s compelling, yet thoughtful, account of what he experienced in Auschwitz.

⌛️We returned with heavy hearts, but a more conscious mind.
A place that reminds us of the importance of memory and the fight against all forms of hatred.

🎯 Study Arabic with Us! ✨
It is with great pleasure that we inform you all that our educational offerings will be expanded as of the next academic year!
An Arabic language course will be activated for students interested in the Degree Course in Languages, Literature and Intercultural Communication.
Foreign Languages and Literatures gets a makeover! From the academic year 2024-25 it will become LANGUAGES, LITERATURE AND INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION.
A profound revision of the curricula, a substantial renovation of the third curriculum, the expansion of the languages studied with the possibility of also choosing Arabic, and the introduction of practical-application LABORATORIES will foster an education that is more attentive to the needs of the changing world. The skills that the new structure of the Course will provide will facilitate the graduate’s access not only to second-level training (Master’s or Master’s degrees), but also to the world of professions related to the fields of international communication, non-specialist translation and cultural mediation, services in the medical-rehabilitation area (speech therapy), cooperation, cultural tourism, and the socio-cultural institutional area.

✨ IPH introduces you to newcomer Professor Massantini joining us in the second semester for the Introduction to Philosophy of Mind course!

🍀 Welcome on board and good luck with the job!

📚 Leonardo Massantini studied Philosophy at the University of Pisa and at the University of Oslo. He earned his PhD in Philosophy in 2022 from the Universities of Pisa and Florence in Cotutelle with the University of Osnabrück (Germany). In his doctoral dissertation titled ‘Philosophy of Nostalgia: Affectivity, Media, and Politics,’ he analyzes how nostalgia can be scaffolded by media and new technologies, and how these external supports can be manipulated for political ends. As a researcher, he primarily focuses on emotions, imagination, memory, and the philosophy of technology. He approaches these topics through the lenses of 4E theories (embodied, embedded, extended, enactive), ancient philosophy (mainly Plato and Aristotle), philosophy of literature, and phenomenology. He is currently a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies – Pisa, where he works on the philosophy of technology, focusing on robotics.

✨ MEET THE ALUMNI ✨
Hanna Silivestrava, 18. Belarus 🇧🇾.
Studies in Performing Art and Communication.
“The winds of change brought me here and I’m grateful for it! I have already fallen in love with IPH and Pisa. The classes grow beautiful, albeit ornate gardens in my mind. I am happy to immerse myself in new academic universes while also exploring the spirit of the local streets and the worlds of new international friends. The air here is dense and rich in inspiration. I am thrilled to observe, participate and create. I can't wait to see where this journey takes us!”

🏺 Also this year, an IPH 2022-23 student participated in the excavation campaign with the Gird-i Matrab Archaeological Project, on Erbil Plain in Iraqi Kurdistan. Eden Pearl Anglin .e_ spent 5 weeks working as an active member at this archaeological site opened last year thanks to the talents of Prof Rocco Palermo.
“This summer I was given the amazing opportunity to join the Gird-I Matrab Archaeological Project ( ), in the Kurdistan Region Iraq with Rocco Palermo, one of the IPH professors. This was a wonderful time doing fieldwork and learning so much about all the methods and techniques that are used during an archaeological excavation. Besides the work I also enjoyed travelling around this marvellous region, enjoying both the natural landscape and the rich cultural heritage of this part of Mesopotamia.“
