📢 We are very pleased to announce that our very own Simone D'Alessandro spoke at the conference "Net-Zero Transition in the Context of Geopolitical Fragmentation: How Can Macroeconomic Modelling Help?", organised by the Energy Institute, The University of Texas at Austin at the Hôtel National Des Arts et Métiers in Paris.

🌳 Alongside Matheus Grasselli, Guilherme Magacho, Julien Lefevre, and Simon Sharpe, he reflected on what can economic models tell us for planning for mid-transition scenarios.

✅ We would like to thank Agence Française de Développement and the Transition Macroeconomic Consortium of the Energy Institute, The University of Texas at Austin for organising this insightful and fruiful event.

📣New paper! Ecohesion members Guilherme Spinato Morlin, David Cano Ortiz, Simone D'Alessandro and Pietro Guarnieri just published a paper in Economic Modelling, titled "Tackling labor market inequalities through minimum and maximum wages".

❓They show that introducing both a minimum wage and a maximum wage in Italy could reduce inequalities without harming employment or growth.

✅The simulations suggest that a minimum wage of 10 euros per hour would help reduce in-work poverty and support lower incomes, while a maximum wage of 40 euros per hour would limit excessive salaries at the top and help reduce the gender pay gap.

〽️The research shows that these two measures can work together in a balanced way: one protects lower-paid workers, the other limits wage concentration, without creating major negative effects on the economy.

🏛️The study was carried out by researchers from the EcohesionCollective of the Università di Pisa and the Normale Superiore.

🇮🇹 In a country where real wages have fallen over the last thirty years, this research offers an important contribution to the debate on inequality, social cohesion and economic stability.

🇮🇹 🇧🇷This last February, we had the honour of welcoming Carlos Eduardo Frickmann Young, Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), as a visiting scholar here in Pisa.

🙏His visit was made possible through the MacroEco Network, organised by the Centro Celso Furtado (Brazil), in collaboration with Professor Guilherme Spinato Morlin.

🌳🏫Carlos Eduardo Young leads the research group on economics and the environment at UFRJ. His extensive body of work spans environmental national accounts, the socioeconomic impacts of natural disasters and climate change, and the integration of macroeconomic methods with environmental analysis.

📣During his stay at the Department of Economics and Management, Professor Young engaged actively with the Ecohesion research group, participated in the department's seminar series, and attended the 4th Workshop of the Doctoral Network EPOG.

📢 Article Alert! Our very own Simone D'Alessandro, alongside Pietro Guarnieri and J.Christopher Proctor recently published a new article in Frontiers in Behavioral Economics.

➡️ The authors work on operationalizing the link between social cohesion and ecological transformation, and outline the concept of “ecohesion”, helpful in linking macro social dynamics and micro behavioral evidence, particularly within quantitative modeling frameworks.

🌳 We all understand that social dynamics will be key to the ecological transition, but pinning down how to best model this has been tricky! We propose thinking of social cohesion as a mediating factor which can make enacting transitions easier or harder. In this framework, the link between social/economic policy and environmental objectives becomes clearer, as increasing social cohesion can also make it easier to act on climate and biodiversity.
