🌍 How will climate projections reshape global food security in Ethiopia?
I’m pleased to share our latest research published with Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies (Elsevier), which explores the critical intersection of climate change, crop water requirements, and the future of agricultural security.
As temperatures rise and precipitation patterns shift, understanding the specific water needs of our crops isn't just an agronomic challenge—it’s a global security imperative. This study dives into:
✅ The impact of future climate scenarios on irrigation needs.
✅ Potential risks to regional and global food supplies.
✅ Data-driven insights for sustainable water management.

The first seminar in the basic soil hydrology series has just ended. Paolo and I would like to thank everyone for participating. The numerous questions made the seminar even more active and stimulating, and I hope my answers were helpful and comprehensive.
We will see you all again on Friday, the 20th. Below you can watch the video on YouTube:

How quickly does rainfall actually reach the groundwater aquifer? The answer is more complex than you might think, especially in layered soils.
I'm excited to share our new open access paper in the Journal of Hydrology, where we investigated how preferential flow creates shortcuts for water, significantly speeding up its journey. Understanding the recharge transit time is vital for sustainable water management and protecting our groundwater resources.
It was a privilege to work with a fantastic team on this. Hope you find the results insightful!

🚀 Excited to share our latest work! 🌍📊
Our manuscript, "Data-Driven Scaling Methods for Soil Moisture Cosmic Ray Neutron Sensors," presents a novel inverse calibration approach for CRNS. By estimating key scaling parameters (β, ψ, ω) and accounting for critical site- and sensor-specific factors, we aim to enhance soil moisture measurement accuracy.
✨ Surprising insights await those familiar with the sensors!
We welcome review and discussion on this flexible, data-driven method that underscores the value of tailored calibration and high-quality data.
Check out Figure 2, showcasing ψ estimates across 64 COSMOS Europe sites. 📈

We are thrilled to announce that our latest research, "Empirical approaches to estimate rainfall erosivity from coarse temporal resolution precipitation data in the Mediterranean region", has just been published in Science of the Total Environment.
In this study, we developed two equations to estimate mean annual erosivity in three pilot regions (Sicily, Sardinia, and Campania) in southern Italy.
The article is open-access, so it's free for everyone to read and build upon. I welcome your thoughts and discussion!
