Rome's oldest American Liberal Arts University that prepares students from around the world to live and work across cultures.

The American University of Rome is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)). The American University of Rome (AUR) is one of the oldest degree-granting American universities in Italy. Students obtain an accredited United States of America bachelor degree upon completion of the academic program (typically four years in duration.) The US bachelor’s degree is universally recognized as a standard of success of higher education. AUR uses Rome as its classroom and Italy and Europe as invaluable resources. The American University of Rome prepares students to live and work across cultures through its practical interdisciplinary academic majors, opportunities for learning through travel and internships, and its multi-cultural faculty and staff.

Networking doesn’t have to be intimidating. 🤝

How do you introduce yourself? Start a conversation? Turn a quick introduction into a meaningful professional connection?

These were just some of the questions our students explored during a networking workshop organized by AUR’s Student Government and Careers Office, with guest speakers from the Professional Women’s Association. From practical tips to real-world insights, the afternoon was all about building confidence, making connections, and taking those first steps into the professional world.

Last week, AUR welcomed scholars, artists, and researchers from across Italy and around the world, including Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Poland, France, Serbia, Estonia, and the United States, for Undisciplined Anthropologies II: Beyond Borders.

Over two days, the conference challenged traditional boundaries around anthropology, bringing different disciplines, cultures, and perspectives into conversation and exploring new ways of understanding people and the world around us.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Rome and contributed to this truly international exchange!

From AUR to some of the biggest names in luxury fashion.

We kicked off this semester’s Alumni Lecture Series with Vittorio Palchetti (BUS ’17) for ‘My Way: Fashion, Tennis and Reality TV’, an evening of stories, unexpected career turns, lessons learned, and a very lively Q&A with our students.

There’s something special about welcoming alumni back to campus to speak to students sitting in the same seats they once did. Vittorio shared what happened after AUR and how his path evolved across industries, from working with names like Gucci, Dior, Valentino and Hermès to eventually taking the leap and building his own business, Vittorio Smoot.

Thank you, Vittorio, for coming back, sharing your story so openly, and investing your time in the next generation of AUR students.

A throwback to the AUR archives.

These photographs captured AUR more than three decades ago. Today, we used AI to set them in motion and take a small step back into campus life in the 1990s.

AUR has grown, technology has transformed the way we learn, and campus looks very different. But look closely, and some things haven’t changed much at all: the community, the friendships, the way we look at the world, and Rome just outside the door.

Join us on September 25–26 for Undisciplined Anthropologies II: Beyond Borders, an international conference presented with Università degli Studi di Palermo (UniPa).

Over two days, scholars, artists, and researchers will explore what happens when anthropology moves beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries, connecting with art, technology, ecology, politics, identity, and new forms of knowledge.

The conference is open to the public and free to attend.

We are proud to continue this collaboration with UniPa and to create a space for genuinely international, interdisciplinary exchange in Rome.
