Dr. Eng. Marco Ghimenti appointed new Head of the Italian National Fire and Rescue Service

Yesterday, the Council of Ministers appointed Eng. Marco Ghimenti as the new Head of the Italian National Fire and Rescue Service (Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco).

This appointment is particularly meaningful to us. For more than ten years, we have had the privilege of collaborating with Commander Ghimenti through the International Master Courses in Protection Against CBRNe Events of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, sharing a strong commitment to CBRNe education, training, preparedness and institutional cooperation.

We are therefore especially honoured that Commander Ghimenti will join us at the SICC Series – CBRNe Conference 2026, where he will deliver a welcome address during the Opening Ceremony.

His presence represents an important recognition of the long-standing cooperation between the National Fire and Rescue Service, the Master CBRNe and the SICC Series community.

Congratulations, Commander Ghimenti, on this prestigious appointment!

🦠🌍 NEW PUBLICATION | Arboviruses, Climate Change and Public Health Preparedness

A new review published in the Brazilian Journal of Microbiology explores the growing co-circulation of arboviruses and introduces the concept of epidemiological convergence to describe increasingly interconnected transmission scenarios.

The study examines the impact of 🌡️ climate change, 🏙️ urbanisation, ✈️ global mobility, 🦟 vector expansion and changing ecological conditions on arboviral risks.

Particular attention is dedicated to integrated surveillance, One Health approaches, diagnostic challenges and public health preparedness, also exploring the potential contribution of selected CBRNE preparedness principles to complex biological scenarios.

👏 Special congratulations and thanks go to Gian Marco Ludovici, Principal Investigator and first author, for leading this important research.

We are pleased to announce the publication of the Official Programme of the SICC Series Operational CBRNe School – Advanced Hands-On Training on CBRNe Technologies, Equipment and Operational Response, organised within SICC Series 2026.

🛡️ The School will combine operational presentations, technology demonstrations and intensive hands-on training, creating a unique opportunity for direct interaction between participants and leading companies operating in the CBRNe sector.

📅 29 September 2026 – National Fire Academy (ISA), Rome
Seven companies will present technologies, equipment and operational solutions through dedicated sessions and demonstrations.

🔬 3 October 2026 – University of Rome Tor Vergata
Participants will be divided into six operational groups, rotating through six dedicated hands-on laboratories and working directly with company trainers, instruments, PPE, detection systems and operational technologies.
