Second and last day of Experimental Archeology at the Bronze Age Site of Solarolo. Two groups of University of Bologna students experimented cheese production and bronze casting thanks to the archaeological remains from the excavation and replicas of them.

Milk processing and cheese production group, led by Florencia Debandi, realized cow, sheep and goat chesee, using both vegetable and animal rennet. During the production, each step has been documented, making the whole process entirely reproducible.

Bronze casting group, led by Claudio Cavazzuti, has been experiencing the preparation of clay implements (crucibles and moulds) and the production of different alloys (5, 10, 15, 20%) for chemical-compositional analyses.

Thanks to our guests Elena Maini and Laura Mussi to have shared the experiments with us as well as their knowledge and expertise!

Tanto lavoro è stato fatto e altrettanto rimane da fare. Ma la condivisione, la solidarietà e la volontà di aiutare e di essere partecipi di studenti, ricercatori, specializzandi, docenti e volontari fa ben sperare.
Un grazie a tutti coloro che in queste giornate sono accorsi a dare una mano, unendosi al team, e a quanti continueranno ad arrivare!

At Solarolo we hosted the students of the UNIBO course of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, supervised by Prof. Cristina Leoni and Prof. Florence Caillaud. Great chance to work together and make the archaeological workflow more efficient 🏺
