🚨 OPEN CALL FOR IDEAS 🚨
IUVENTA – FROM RESCUE VESSEL TO BEACON OF RECONNECTION
We are about to embark on a new journey — and for this occasion we are calling on artists, designers, architects, performers, researchers, and thinkers of all kinds to join us.
The call focuses on the former IUVENTA ship, a vessel that operated in the Central Mediterranean between 2016 and 2017, assisting over 23,000 people in distress at sea. Seized in 2017 and left unused in the port of Trapani, the IUVENTA has become a powerful material and symbolic space tied to contemporary histories of migration, border politics, and solidarity at sea.
We invite interdisciplinary proposals imagining possible futures for the vessel: temporary or long-term transformations into an artistic, cultural, or participatory space engaging with migration, maritime memory, ecological transition, decolonial imaginaries, and collective care in the Mediterranean.
The project will culminate in a public symposium in Syracuse on 3–4 October 2026, where selected participants will present their proposals and contribute to a shared public programme.
Application deadline: 26 July 2026

Solidarity is not a crime.
Creativity is its continuation.
We relaunch the IUVENTA — together.
