Region Europe Region Europe is an inter-disciplinary program pursuing a comprehensive knowledge of the European model as a regional institution ad as a global actor.

THE PROGRAM IS OPEN TO…
- Students enrolled in master courses of the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society, University of Turin *

‍- Erasmus and international students at the University of Turin*

- Students enrolled in Universities belonging to the wider Region Europe network**. Both Master and Bachelor students are allowed to participate, but in case of large number of applications, Mas

ter students will be given priority in the selection process

*Students can acquire 3, 6 or 9 credits (CFU). **Students can receive a certificate of participation. Writing a paper on a topic related to the lectures is also required in order to earn the certificate and/or CFU. Please check our FAQs at regioneurope.eu for more details. PROGRAM PROFILE
90 hours lesson taught in English, organized in three modules, 30 hours each:
• Political, economic, social and cultural features of Europe;
• The European way to regionalism: Historical, political, economic features of European Integration;
• Europe in the world: EU Foreign Policy and Interregional relations. Lectures are delivered by professors of the University of Turin and of the best Italian and European Universities. Extra-academic activities: visit to the European Parliament, the European Commission and NATO in Brussels. Visit to the UN Staff College, the European Training Foundation and Europe Direct in Turin. Europe from Outside Seminars, series of six seminars on the EU role in the world and the external perceptions of the EU as a global actor, involving professors from Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. 🧑🏻‍🏫 Richard Youngs is a 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 in the Democracy, Conflict, and Governance Program at 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲. He is also a 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 of International Relations at the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸.

💼 Over his career, he has worked on European Union foreign policy and international democracy, previously serving in the 𝗨𝗞 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲, directing the Madrid-based think tank FRIDE, and working as an EU Marie Curie fellow.

📚 He has published extensively — authoring around 𝟭𝟳 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀, including his recent titles 𝘋𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘥𝘴: 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘛𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘺-𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘺 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴 (Oxford, 2024) and 𝘎𝘦𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘞𝘢𝘳 (Agenda Publishing, 2024).

🗣 Stephan Klement is a 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁 specializing in nuclear policy, non-proliferation, and international legal affairs. He is currently serving with the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗘𝗘𝗔𝗦) 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 in 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮.

🇪🇺 Thanks to his combined technical and legal expertise, Klement has been a 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗲 in the 𝗘𝗨’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲—not only in reaching the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) but also in supporting its implementation on behalf of the European Union. Based in Vienna, a hub for numerous international nuclear institutions, he occupies a strategic position at the 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆, 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

🇪🇺 The next session of the EU Voices Seminars features 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗼', 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗨𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗛𝗔.

💠 𝗘𝗨𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗛𝗔 (European Regional and Local Health Authorities) is a network that brings together 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲. It focuses on 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 and the exchange of best practices among regional health systems to improve healthcare delivery at the local and regional levels. ☮️ A 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗲 born in Jerusalem and raised in Ramallah, Ms. Habash has dedicated her career to 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 across the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.

🌐 The "EUrope from Outside Seminars" are back! This week we’re pleased to welcome 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗹 from 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆.

🧑🏻‍🏫 Markus Thiel is Professor of 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 at Florida International University (Miami) and 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 of 𝗙𝗜𝗨’𝘀 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. His research focuses on the political sociology of the European Union, human rights, and identity politics.

📚 Author of numerous publications on EU politics and transnationalism, Prof. Thiel has written and co-edited several books on 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆, diversity, civil society, and 𝗟𝗚𝗕𝗧𝗜 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀.

We can’t wait to welcome you for week three, featuring special guest speakers, including 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘂𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗹 from Florida International University; 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗟𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗵, who will discuss EU-Palestine relations; and 𝗠𝗿. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗞𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, former EU Special Envoy for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation and Special Advisor on the Iran Nuclear Issue. He played a key role as a negotiator in the 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟱 𝗜𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹, one of the EU’s major foreign policy achievements.

🇲🇩 Inna Supac is currently with the 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 (BICC) and serves as an Associate Fellow at the 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗡𝗥𝗪.

Her distinguished career spans public policy, governance, and civil society. She has served as a 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 and 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨–𝗠𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗼𝘃𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲, led the Institute for Strategic Initiatives, and co-hosted a TV program on policy reform and social cohesion.

🧑🏻‍🏫Professor Tella leads the 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 at the 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴, where his work explores how soft power and African thought shape the continent’s role and voice in global affairs.

Author of 𝘈𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢’𝘴 𝘚𝘰𝘧𝘵 𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 (Routledge, 2021) and editor of influential volumes, Professor Tella has published extensively in 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 such as Politikon, Social Dynamics, and the Journal of Black Studies.

🔎His research spans themes of 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿, International Relations, Peace and Conflict, African Politics, and Knowledge Production.

In his lecture, titled “𝗔 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮”, Professor Tella will examine the evolving dynamics between Africa and the European Union, focusing on how the EU’s soft power is perceived across the continent today and the role it continues to play in and for Africa.
