From our 2013 alumnus, Ishupąl: "My time at IUC was very enjoyable and enriching. As far as the academics are concerned, I was particularly amazed by the overall structure and flow of the entire program which weaved in a truly multidisciplinary approach to the study of issues of economics, finance and law, and taught by a wonderful line up of world class faculty. Independent thinking was highly encouraged and class discussions were lively and productive. Even apart from studies, I found a supportive environment here at IUC. The faculty members were easily accessible for any kinds of questions, doubts, face to face discussions and the administration was extremely helpful and caring towards the needs of the students."

Laura Maria Gutierrez Escobar, Doctor in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has recently published a very important, timely and committed account of the ongoing conflicts over the property and circulation of seeds.

The modern concepts of properties, including that of intellectual property and ownership over nature, are increasingly challenged on the ground and condemn for their appropriation of what does not belong to anyone.

The notion of seeds sovereignty is a challenge to the exclusionary and accumulative nature of the global food system. A bottom-up alternative that recognizes social ties and ecological connections over profit maximization and control.

For this reason, the students of our master in Food, Law and Finance engage with intellectual property rules, patents, legal structures and biodiversity.

The schizophrenia of our consumeristic food system: on the one hand, we want traceability, information, transparency and proximity. On the other hand, the same people who can afford a farmers market are increasingly using a system where everything is kept invisible. The kitchen. The cook. The deliverer. Food is distributed as it was a technological tool. Ready to be consumed in the bubble that our houses have become. Maybe while binge-watching without talking.

A slow - but visible - transition is happening. The forth industrial revolution is changing the way in which food is conceived, produced, imagined, distributed. And food workers, food producers, the communality of eating, food as sharing, are crashed under the weight of machines that cannot unionize, complain or desire to have a better life.

Just Eat, whose website allows customers to order food from local takeaways which is then delivered by staff from the individual restaurants, has delivered more than 1,000 meals via its fleet of 10 robots in London.
