The European University Festival is a permanent European platform connecting universities, research, institutions and industry to develop concrete solutions to global challenges.
The 2026–2027 edition is dedicated to Climate Change, transforming university knowledge, research and innovation into real-world impact through scientific evaluation, international visibility, funding and implementation opportunities.
The Final Phase will take place in Turin, Italy, from 29 June to 3 July 2027.
The Festival is held under the High Patronage of the European Parliament and the Patronage of the Holy See, through the Dicastery for Culture and Education.

Dr. Carlo Buontempo joins the Scientific Committee of the European University Festival.

Director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) at ECMWF, Carlo Buontempo joins the Science & Environment area of the Festival’s Scientific Committee.

His experience spans climate projections, climate impacts, regional climate modelling and the development of climate services supporting decision-making across different sectors.

His participation further strengthens the scientific pathway of the 2026–2027 edition dedicated to Climate Change, bringing additional expertise in climate science and climate services to the Festival.

CHRISTIE’S & EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY FESTIVAL
Towards the Global Climate Auction

Founded in London in 1766 by James Christie, Christie’s is one of the world’s most prestigious auction houses, with more than 250 years at the heart of the international art world.

The European University Festival and Christie’s are working on the development of the Global Climate Auction, an ambitious international initiative aimed at supporting some of the most promising solutions to address climate change.

The goal is to bring together the worlds of art, scientific research, universities, cultural institutions and international philanthropy around a shared mission: turning ideas into concrete action for the future of our planet.

Funds raised will support the twelve winning projects of the European University Festival, selected through the Festival’s international evaluation process.

From sustainable energy and ocean protection to the circular economy and climate innovation, the selected projects will receive concrete support to transform research and innovation into real-world impact.

Institutional meeting in Brussels with Luigi Di Maio, EU Special Representative for the Gulf region.

On 27 August 2026, Pierangelo Saba, Founder and Director of Operations of the European University Festival, met in Brussels with Luigi Di Maio, EU Special Representative for the Gulf region.

During the institutional meeting, the European University Festival was presented and its international development discussed, with particular attention to opportunities for dialogue between Europe and the Gulf region in the fields of higher education, climate action, innovation and youth engagement.

The exchange also explored opportunities to strengthen connections between European universities, institutions and the Gulf region as part of the Festival's growing international dimension.

We thank Mr Di Maio and his Office for the opportunity to engage in this constructive dialogue.

We look forward to building on this exchange in the coming weeks.

Dr. Flavia Fabiano joins the Scientific Committee of the European University Festival

Dr. Flavia Fabiano is a researcher at the Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement (CIRAD), one of the world’s leading international research organizations dedicated to sustainable agriculture, food systems, and territorial development.

Her research focuses on the governance of international agri-food markets and value chains, with particular attention to institutional innovations that support food security and the transition toward sustainable and inclusive food systems.

As a member of the Scientific Committee of the European University Festival, she joins the Food Systems working group, contributing to the scientific direction of activities focused on sustainable agriculture, food security, and innovation in agri-food systems. She also contributes to defining the selection criteria for university projects in these strategic fields, helping promote solutions for the future of our societies and our planet.

We are honoured to announce that the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See has expressed a positive opinion regarding the granting of its patronage to the European University Festival.

This represents an important institutional recognition for our European project, already supported by the Italian National Commission for UNESCO and held under the High Patronage of the European Parliament.

The European University Festival will officially launch its permanent platform on 21 May 2026 in Turin, while the international final event will take place in May 2027, bringing together universities, institutions, young people, scientific research, culture and innovation from across Europe.

We sincerely thank Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça and the Dicastery for Culture and Education for the attention and support dedicated to our initiative.

Our mission remains clear: to build a permanent European platform capable of connecting the academic world with the major challenges of the future.

Starting on 21 May 2026, the European University Festival will officially launch the European call addressed to universities, academies, research institutions and higher education networks across Europe.

Participants will have six months to submit projects and proposals dedicated to:

🔬 Scientific Innovation
🎨 Art & Communication
🍃 Sustainability and Environmental Transition

The most innovative projects will be selected by the Scientific Committee, and 24 finalist universities and institutions will be invited to Turin for the final phase of the European University Festival.

The Festival aims to create a permanent European platform capable of transforming academic research into concrete impact through collaboration between universities, institutions, industry and civil society.
