High strain-rate and impact testing laboratory - Politecnico di Torino - Italy A VISAR system will be avaliable soon to measure very high shock speeds.

DYNLab laboratory is equipped with four Split Hopkinson Bar systems: two compression/bending, a direct tension (strain-rate range 10^2-10^3 s-1) and a miniaturized compression for strain rate over 10^4 s-1. We have a light gas gun and we are developing a two stage light gas gun for hyper-velocity impacts. Standard servo-hydraulic and electromechanical systems (100 kN of capacity) and two pneumati

c systems for medium strain-rates (strain-rate range 10-10^2 s-1) cover the static and medium strain-rate range. A great number of accessories, data acquisition systems and sensors are available to perform mechanical testing even in non-standard loading conditions (low and high temperature, hydrostatic condition, etc.). High resolution and high speed cameras are employed to acquire images from the tests for analysis with dedicated tool (Digital Image Correlation software). Many standard and novel materials were tested in our laboratory:

- sheets steel for automotive and railway applications
- high strength steel for oil extraction
- aluminum alloys for aeronautics
- metal matrix composite for nuclear application
- polymers
- polymeric and aluminum foams
- syntactic foams
- rubber and elastomers
- adhesives and bonded structures
