Mai come in questi ultimi tempi i media ci rimbalzano immagini di bambini che vivono situazioni al limite, siano esse di guerra o di emigrazione; non a caso quindi abbiamo deciso di scegliere i piccoli, capaci forse di uno sguardo che noi adulti non riusciamo più ad avere, a rappresentare il poster della 35° edizione.
Uno sguardo che trova gioia anche dove non esiste, spontaneamente capace di resistere e dotato della magia dell’unico ‘filtro bellezza’ davvero importante.
Angelina e Vadym, pur essendo due bambini di Karpylivka, un paese a soli 2 km dal confine della zona contaminata e off limits di Chernobyl, giocano spensierati nel fiume sotto casa, guardando naturalmente al cielo, verso l’alto, e in qualche modo verso il loro e nostro futuro.
L’immagine del fotografo ucraino Oleksii Furman ci ha subito folgorato per la sua preziosa componente di fiducia e speranza, uno scatto che coglie l’inesorabile e potente richiamo all’energia e alla vita e che ha la forza di sprigionarsi naturalmente, il più delle volte a dispetto dal contesto.
Oleksii Furman è un fotoreporter di Kyiv, ex studente dell’Università del Missouri; ha seguito la rivoluzione di Euromaidan del 2013/2014, l'annessione russa della Crimea, la guerra nell'Ucraina orientale e l'invasione russa su larga scala del 2022. I suoi lavori sono stati pubblicati da TIME, New York Times, Washington Post, Al Jazeera America, 6MOIS, Der Spiegel, The Guardian, Der Standaard e Financial Times.

We’ve never been so exposed to images of children living in borderline situations like migrations or war before.
It’s no coincidence that we decided to choose kids, capable perhaps of a gaze that we adults no longer have, to represent the poster for the 35th edition.
A gaze that finds joy even where there no longer is. A spontaneous gaze, able to resist and endowed with the only 'beauty filter' that matters: magic.
Angelina and Vadym are two children from Karpylivka, a village just 2 km from the border of the contaminated off-limits zone of Chernobyl, and we see them playing carefree in the river below their home.
They look up to the sky, upwards, towards their (and our) future.
We fell instantly in love with Oleksii Furman's image.
With its precious feelings of trust and hope.
With the inexorable and powerful call to energy and life.
With its power to release energy and life so naturally, in spite of the context.
Oleksii Furman is a photojournalist from Kyiv, a former student at the University of Missouri; he covered the Maidan revolution of 2013/2014, the Russian annexation of Crimea, the war in eastern Ukraine and the large-scale Russian invasion of 2022.
His work has been published by TIME, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Al Jazeera America, 6MOIS, Der Spiegel, The Guardian, Der Standaard and the Financial Times.
