The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (CIHEAM Bari) is the Italian Headquarters of CIHEAM (International Center of Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies) an intergovernmental organization founded in 1962 under the auspices of OECD and of the Council of Europe. Since 2025, the Director of the CIHEAM Bari is Mr Biagio Di Terlizzi. CIHEAM Bari’s mission targets post-graduate higher education, applied research and development cooperation. Its network involves hundreds of institutions located in several Mediterranean and African countries. In Italy, avails of a network of around 200 bodies among research, private sector, entrepreneurship, producers’ organizations, institutions. Thanks to this network, CIHEAM Bari ensures a timely mobilization of hundreds of experts able to operate abroad and in Italy. CIHEAM Bari’s facilities include an International Campus located in Valenzano (Bari, Italy) and an office in Tricase (Lecce, Italy) where capacity building actions are continuously carried out with both in-person and distance learning methodologies. 👩🏿‍🍳 Durante Terra Madre Slow Food Italia, RACINeS ha portato a Torino anche i sapori e le tradizioni gastronomiche del Senegal, attraverso uno show cooking dedicato alla cucina locale tra preparazioni, racconti e degustazioni

🤝 Un momento di condivisione che ha permesso di valorizzare le conoscenze e le esperienze delle comunità coinvolte nel progetto, ricordandoci come la cooperazione passi anche attraverso lo scambio culturale e la scoperta reciproca

Around 350 km from Addis Ababa, Jimma sits at the heart of Ethiopia’s coffee country. Ethiopia’s commodity exports generated US$11 billion in foreign exchange, with coffee contributing US$3.1 billion! ☕🇪🇹 and the sector contributes 30–35% of national export earnings alone.But Jimma’s story does not stop at coffee.

📌 Ethiopia can produce up to 500,000 tonnes of honey a year, but current production is only a fraction of that potential. In wood handicrafts, more than 4,200 people already work across around 700 micro and small enterprises, most of them young.

These are more than numbers. They point to value chains with room to grow — through better quality and processing, stronger access to markets, and new ways of bringing together design, branding and communication.

🔎 This is where agriculture meets creativity: not by replacing what already exists, but by helping local businesses and young entrepreneurs turn skills, resources and ideas into new opportunities.

✅ To understand where that potential lies, CIHEAM Bari assessed the local ecosystem, engaging with institutions, cooperatives, banks and businesses across the territory. The findings are helping shape the incubation journey now taking place in Jimma.

The delegation meets with Director Biagio Di Terlizzi, in the presence of Maurizio Raeli, Delegate of the Italian Government to the CIHEAM Governing Board. The visit offers an opportunity to explore how CIHEAM Bari translates into practical solutions that respond to the needs of territories and communities, while identifying new areas for .

🔗Dating back to the 1960s, the partnership between Malta and CIHEAM Bari continues to support the development of a more and sector. Building on the provided to , whose appreciation for CIHEAM Bari’s support in integrated and has emerged in several forums, the collaboration will continue to strengthen the Ministry’s agricultural extension and dissemination services, bringing knowledge and practical solutions closer to farmers and agricultural stakeholders.

Digital innovation and the sustainable management of natural resources are also key areas of cooperation. Malta has equipped its administration with a for territorial and planning, supporting a more rational management of natural resources. Further opportunities will be explored with the , particularly through cooperation with its Regional .
