Les interventions du CICR en matière de contamination par les armes visent principalement à réduire les dangers pour les communautés vivant dans des zones affectées par des mines terrestres, des armes à sous-munitions et d'autres restes explosifs de guerre ou par des armes ou des agents chimiques, biologiques, radiologiques et nucléaires (CBRN) ; l'organisation cherche également à s'assurer que son travail dans les environnements contaminés est effectué en toute sécurité.
Le CICR travaille avec les Sociétés nationales et les autorités nationales responsables des activités dans ce domaine, et peut fournir une formation, un encadrement et d'autres formes de soutien pour les aider à développer leurs capacités.

The ICRC’s responses to weapon contamination are designed primarily to reduce the dangers for communities living in areas affected by landmines, cluster munitions and other explosive remnants of war or by chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) weapons or agents; the organization also seeks to ensure that its work in contaminated environments is carried out safely.
The ICRC works with National Societies and the domestic authorities responsible for activities in this field, and may provide training, mentoring and other support to help them develop their capabilities.

Les conséquences du changement climatique se font sentir partout, mais ce sont les communautés les plus vulnérables du monde qui en subissent les effets les plus dévastateurs. Cela inclut les personnes vivant dans des conflits armés qui sont touchées de manière disproportionnée par les risques climatiques. Fondée sur la pratique de terrain acquise par l'unité Eau et Habitat du CICR dans des contextes de conflit, cette présentation vise à présenter trois points : en premier lieu : pourquoi les personnes vivant dans des conflits sont-elles particulièrement vulnérables aux risques climatiques et à la dégradation de l'environnement ? en second lieu : comment y font-elles face et s'adaptent-elles ? enfin : comment pouvons-nous adapter l'action humanitaire pour les aider à mieux faire face à un climat changeant ?

The consequences of climate change are felt everywhere but its most crippling effects are borne by the world’s most vulnerable communities. This includes people enduring armed conflict who are disproportionately impacted by climate risks. Grounded on field practice acquired by the ICRC Water and Habitat Unit in conflict settings, this session aims at presenting three points: first, why are people living in conflict particularly vulnerable to climate risks and environmental degradation, second, how do they cope and adapt, and finally how can we adapt humanitarian action to help them cope better with a changing climate.”

International humanitarian law is a set of rules that seeks to limit the effects of armed conflict. It protects persons who are not or no longer participating in hostilities and sets limits to the means and methods of warfare that parties to a conflict may employ. For international humanitarian law to effectively regulate the behavior of the parties to a conflict, there is a need for both adequate rules and their implementation. After a short introduction to international humanitarian law to frame the topic, the session will focus on these two aspects and will assess their role in the strengthening of international humanitarian law
