We have been very lucky till the end! After a couple of hours the fog faded and we enjoyed a beautiful post-conference tour visiting four island in the lagoon.
Our first stop was in San Francesco del Deserto, where the monks welcomed us telling the long history of their abbey, founded by San Francesco himself.
Then we moved to where we visited the Università Ca' Foscari Venezia excavations Torcello Abitata, Archeologia, Ecologia e Patrimonio Culturale. Students and Pr. D. Calaon guided us through late roman and medieval layers and among the beauties of the Basilica.
Also the place for the lunch break was an historical one: the little Marzorbetto islands, with the military fortress hidden by the vegetation.
Before coming back to Venice, following the steps of ancient sailors and merchants, we spent some times on Lazzaretto Nuovo, where people spent their quarantine to prevent the plague contagion.
And with the sunset shining over the lagoon, ended in the best way possible!
