The second stop of the VEM second-year campus visits took first-year students to Udine 🍷🎓

During the two-day study trip, students had the opportunity to explore the University of Udine facilities, including the laboratories in the Rizzi area and the LABAS research centre, home to the second-year specialisation tracks Research and Development for a Sustainable Viticulture and Research and Development in Enology.

The programme also introduced students to the course contents, current research activities and thesis opportunities, followed by a tasting of experimental wines produced within the 2025 viticulture trials.

But let’s be honest: the best part of these trips is always the winery visits 🍷✨ Students had the chance to discover different wine territories and production realities through visits to Petrussa, Jermann and Villa Bogdano 🍇

An immersive experience combining university life, applied research and winery visits, helping students gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities offered by the Udine specialisation tracks.

It’s that time of the year again: visits to the second-year campuses of the VEM Master’s Degree Programme 🍷🎓

The first stop brought first-year students to Verona, where they had the opportunity to explore the campuses and learn more about the specialisations they will choose for their second year.

The visit started in San Floriano, at Villa Lebrecht, home to the Identity, Typicality, Terroir and New Frontiers in Viticulture and Enology tracks, and continued at the Santa Marta campus in Verona, where the Economy and Marketing in Wine Business programme is based.

Alongside the university visits, students also had the chance to discover the local wine territory through visits to the Valpolicella Consortium, Tedeschi Wines and Azienda Gini 🍇✨

🌧️ Bad weather didn’t stop our students!
Not even the rain could hold back our first-year students, who spent the day among the vineyards of Vignalta in the beautiful area of Colli Euganei, guided by Prof. Franco Meggio. 🍇🌿

It was a valuable opportunity to observe field practices up close, explore the unique characteristics of the territory, and understand how agronomic choices shape the quality, sustainability, and identity of wine.

A full day immersed in the landscape and viticultural heritage of the Colli Euganei, proof that learning in the field is always worth it, no matter the weather. 🌱✨

🍷 “Slender Profile Wines” Tasting with Cristina Mercuri

On May 21, 2025, first-year students of the Master’s Degree in Viticulture, Enology and Wine Markets took part in a tasting session led by wine educator Cristina Mercuri, dedicated to wines with a “slender” profile, one of the most current expressions of contemporary taste.

The focus of the session was on elegant, light, and approachable wines, designed for modern and informal consumption, featuring fresh, clean profiles, lower alcohol content, lighter color and tannin, and a reduced use of sulfites.

This approach reflects the changing habits of wine consumers: wines that are enjoyable, immediate, and sustainable, less tied to traditional food pairings and more in tune with the preferences of younger generations.
