APU College of Sustainability and Tourism Professor Kazem M. Vafadari’s Co-Authored Paper has been published in the International Journal of Tourism Research !// サステナビリティ観光学部Vafadari M. Kazem教授の共著論文がInternational Journal of Tourism Research誌 (WILEY)に掲載されました！

In collaboration with Michael T.H. Lai from the Rita Tong Liu School of Business and Hospitality Management at Saint Francis University in Hong Kong, and Motohiro Oribe from the Oribe Rheumachika Naika Clinic in Oita City, Japan, this paper, entitled, “Enhancing Travel Experiences for Tourists With Rheumatoid Arthritis: Insights From the Constraint-Effects-Mitigation Model”, sheds light on research gaps related to travel constraints for tourists, and analyzes the interrelationships among health constraints, negotiation strategies and priorities for tourists, specifically with rheumatoid arthritis. Utilizing the Constraint-Effects-Mitigation (CEM) model to analyze these variables, this research greatly contributes to the development of more effective marketing and product development strategies in the tourism industry for individuals with individual disabilities and chronic illnesses.

本論文“Enhancing Travel Experiences for Tourists With Rheumatoid Arthritis: Insights From the Constraint-Effects-Mitigation Model”（「関節リウマチを持つ旅行者の旅行体験をより良くするために：制約‐影響‐緩和（CEM）モデルに基づく考察」）は、香港のセントフランシス大学のLAI Michael Tin Hang准教授および大分市の織部リウマチ科内科クリニックの織部元廣院長による共著論文です。
これまでの観光研究は、インフラや安全性などに注目してきましたが、関節リウマチのような慢性疾患を持つ人の旅行の不便さや障壁はあまり研究されてきませんでした。
本研究では、関節リウマチのある旅行者について、健康上の制約・工夫（対処）・旅行意欲の関係を分析し、その結果、旅行意欲は「旅行への関わり」と「自分なりの工夫」の両方に影響され、特にこの“工夫”が重要な役割を果たすことが分かりました。
本研究は、慢性疾患を持つ旅行者という新たな市場理解と、観光分野での施策に役立つ知見を示しています。

水戸貴久講師の論文が学会誌「日本語教育」に掲載されました！//Lecturer Takahisa Mito’s article was published in the Japanese Education Journal!

APU言語教育センター水戸貴久講師の論文「ミャンマー人介護人材の国外移動と日本語学習
―キャリアの「救済」と「拡張」―」が「日本語教育193号」に掲載されました。
本研究は、2021年の軍事クーデター後に来日したミャンマー人介護人材7名への半構造化インタビューを通じ、出国動機や職業選択において日本語学習がどのような役割を果たしていたのかを分析したものです。分析の結果、政治的不安や経済低迷、大学教育の機能不全が国外移動を促す一方、日本の人手不足や受け入れ制度が渡日を後押ししていたことが明らかになりました。また日本語学習は、困難な状況下でキャリアを支える「救済」であると同時に、将来の選択肢を広げる「拡張」として機能していたことが示されています。

APU Center for Language Education Lecturer Takahisa Mito’s article entitled, “International Mobility of Myanmar Care Workers and Japanese Language Learning: Career “Salvation” and “Expansion” was published in the 193rd edition of the Japanese Education journal!

This research analyzes the role of Japanese language education on motivations for leaving Myanmar and job selection, through semi-structured interviews with 7 Myanmar care workers who came to Japan following the military coup d’etat in 2021.

The results of the analysis reveal that while political instability, economic downturn, and insufficiencies in higher education were driving people out of the country, labor shortages and the immigration system were encouraging people to come to Japan.

Furthermore, the research shows that under difficult circumstances, learning Japanese served as a “lifeline” for many, while also expanding their options for the future.

APU Visiting Researcher, Dr. MAXUDOVA Oliya, and Professor NATSUDA Kaoru Co-Authored a Paper Published in The Extractive Industries and Society Journal! // APU客員研究員Dr. MAXUDOVA Oliyaさんと夏田郁教授の共著論文がThe Extractive Industries and Society誌に掲載されました！

The co-authored paper by APU Visiting Researcher, Dr. Maxudova Oliya (completed Doctoral Program of Asia Pacific Studies at APU), and Professor Natsuda Kaoru of the College of Asia Pacific Studies has been published in one of the leading resource management journals, The Extractive Industries and Society (Impact Factor 4.3 & Citescore 7.7). The paper, titled “Challenges in the development of the extractive industries sector in Tajikistan: The case of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI),” identifies that although Tajikistan’s extractive industries have been growing rapidly, and despite being a member of EITI since 2013, two fundamental challenges: poor state capacity and insufficient engagement of civil society, have hindered progress in improving resource management in Tajikistan. This paper reveals that the EITI membership in Tajikistan seems to be playing a window-dressing role, rather than tackling fundamental challenges in natural resource management of the extractive industries sector.

APU言語教育センター水戸貴久講師の論文「2021年クーデター後のミャンマーにおける日本語教育－情勢不安下における言語文化教育の意義の考察－」が「言語文化教育研究第23巻」に掲載されました！
本研究は、近年の在留ミャンマー人数増加の背景にある2021年のクーデター後のミャンマーにおける日本語教育の実態を、現地でのフィールド調査を基に、分析・考察しています。ミャンマーの日本語学習者はクーデター前から増加傾向にありましたが、2021年2月以降、日本語学習は出国と生存のための手段となり、日本語教育は日本語能力試験を重視する流れへと変化しました。現地の日本語教育関係者はこのような状況に葛藤しながらも、現在のミャンマーの日本語教育を「人道支援のための日本語教育」と意味付け活動していました。本研究の結果は、情勢不安下の言語文化教育が困難な状況を生き抜き、人々の希望を支える役割を担っていることを示唆しています。

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Takahisa Mito, Lecturer at the APU Center for Language Education, has published a paper entitled “Japanese language education in post-coup Myanmar: Exploring the signifi-cance of language and cultural education under conditions of social unrest” has been published in the Studies of Language and Cultural Education Journal, Vol. 23.
This study analyzes the realities of the Japanese language education system in Myanmar following the 2021 coup. Although the number of Japanese language learners in Myanmar had already been on the rise prior to the coup, amid growing social instability, young people are choosing Japanese language learning as a means of survival and a pathway to leaving the country, leading to an increased emphasis on passing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Despite their struggles with these circumstances, Japanese language education practitioners in Myanmar have come to frame and engage in current Japanese language education as “Japanese language education for humanitarian support.” The findings suggest that, even under severe political uncertainty, language and cultural education can play an important role in sustaining hope for people living in difficult circumstances.

Professor Koichi Yamaura was invited to give a keynote speech at an International Forum Sponsored by the Taiwanese Government’s Ministry of the Interior!//山浦紘一准教授が台湾内政部主催国際フォーラムに登壇しました！

On November 11, 2025, the Ministry of the Interior held a “Net Zero Green Living” roundtable and international forum at the National Taipei University of Technology and Assoc. Prof. Koichi Yamaura of the College of Asia Pacific Studies was invited to speak!

After the exchange of ideas with the Minister of the Interior, Liu Shih-Fang, Prof. Yamaura gave a keynote speech about commonalities between Taiwan and Japan’s housing policies, net zero energy living, Perovskite Solar Cells (PSCs) among other themes, and subsequently participated in a panel discussion.

Through a lively exchange of ideas, panelists explored the potential of Taiwan’s transition to near-zero carbon building policies. The forum was widely covered by Taiwanese media authorities and had generated an impactful response, enhancing APU’s reputability and recognition in Taiwan.

台湾内政部は2025年11月7日、国立台北科技大学にて「住まいの脱炭素グリーンライフ（住的淨零綠生活）」をテーマとする国際フォーラムを開催し、山浦紘一アジア太平洋学部准教授が招待されました。
山浦准教授は劉世芳内政部長（大臣）との対談後、台湾と日本の住宅政策の共通点やネット・ゼロ・エネルギー住宅、ペロブスカイト太陽電池などをテーマに基調講演を行い、パネルディスカッションにも登壇しました。活発な意見交換を通じて、台湾の脱炭素建築政策への転換の可能性を探っています。
本フォーラムは台湾の各種メディアで広く報道され、大きな反響を呼んでいます。APUの知名度と評価が台湾国内でさらに高まるきっかけとなりました。
今後も山浦准教授の一層の活躍が期待されます！

Picture-story show performance on the theme of Hiroshima’s reconstruction, followed by a talk with the creators
Over two days, participants will have opportunities to reflect on peace across generations and communities through a variety of engaging programs.
