*If* you already have a mental bank of English sentences ('I will be good', 'I won't be long', 'It will be fun' etc), then it is a good idea to learn why we say 'will be' in some sentences and just 'will' in other sentences.

BUT - sentences first, grammar rules later!

If you learn grammar rules first, your brain will want to analyse everything you say. This slows you down & makes it very hard to become fluent.

If you learn sentences first, your brain just accepts the grammar without thinking about it. This helps you use (mostly) correct grammar automatically and fluently.

There are a lot of ways to say 'so', but they have different grammar patterns.

* ; consequently, . OR . Consequently, .

If you are doing IELTS or PTE, be careful to get this right: examiners look for it.
If you're doing PTE, it's super-important in .

English is crazy.
Skirt = it
Pants = they/them
T-shirt = it

Why?
If something is made of 2 parts *that are exactly the same* we call that thing 'they/them', not 'it'.
But if something is made of 3 or more parts, we call that thing 'it'.

Interesting fact: approximately 90% of the world's languages do NOT use the sound 'th' (soft or hard).

Here are some languages that DO use it:
* English
* Arabic (depending on the dialect)
* Greek
* Icelandic
* Albanian
* Burmese

If your language is not on that list, it is likely that you need to work on training both your ear and your mouth to recognise and create 'th'.

To make the sound:
Rest your tongue between your teeth and breathe out!
Test yourself by using Google Voice Typing.

After you can make the sound, it gets easier to hear the sound.

It's not *wrong* to say, 'Emojis were invented by Japan.'
However, it is *better* to say, 'Emojis were invented in Japan.'

If you say 'by Japan', it feels like *all* of Japan invented the emoji.
'In Japan' just means that someone in Japan invented the emoji. This is more precise. English tests love precision.

So if you want to practice, tell me something that was invented in *your* country. Answer in the comments.

Could you do it?
That's what you have to do in the PTE (Pearson Test of English).

Describe Image questions make up over 30% of your Speaking score.

Most of you waste a lot of time memorising long templates that *reduce* your score & then panicking when you see graphs that don't fit the template... or images that are not graphs.

We 'make' friends, but we don't 'make' boyfriends/partners/husbands.

I don't know why English insists that we 'get' romantic partners perfect and fully-formed, whereas we have to 'make' and build our friends... but those are the existing 'correct' collocations.

How about in your language? Do you make friends? Do you make romantic partners? Or do you just get them?

Do you pay attention or give attention in your language?

In English we pay attention. The more I think about that, the weirder it is.
But so it is.

Word partners like 'pay attention' (not give attention) & 'fast food' (not quick food) & 'focus on' (not focus in) are called collocations. If you use collocations correctly, people understand you faster. Communication becomes smoother. Tests judge your English as 'better'.

So pay attention to collocations 😀.
