みなさん、高尾山という山を知っていますか⁇
高尾山は東京の中で一番有名な山です。
国内外から多くの登山者が訪れています。
標高はスカイツリーよりやや低い599mです。
気軽に登れる標高であることから、小さい子供を連れて家族で登ぼることもできます。
高尾山は日本の国定公園にもなっており、自然豊か場所になっています
ぜひ日本に来た際には訪れてみてください！

Do you know mountain called by Mt. Takao⁇ Mt.Takao is the mountain which is the most famous in Tokyo.
Many mountaineers come from the inside and outside the country.
Altitude is 599m that is slightly lower than the Sky Tree.
Because it is altitude to be able to climb willingly, the up can overcharge in families with a small child.
Mount Takao becomes the quasi-national park of Japan, and become the place full of nature.
When came to Japan by all means, please visit it!

TODAY's report is from Shu.
As I introduced in this column, there are many secondary nature or SATOYAMA in Japan. But of course, primeval nature exsist especially in mountain area.

This example is Mt. Makihata in Nigata prefecture, one of my research team's study area.
Over 1500m in this mountain, you can see natural grassland. The area around this mountain is hevy snow zone so that tall tree cannot grow and only natural grass can grow.
However, about 40 years ago, this grassland was devastated due to climer's over use. So our research team(TUA)' s misson has been to restore this devastated grassland, and many kinds of approach has tried and researched.
For example, we removed invaded soil from pond and then bring that soil to devastated grassland.
This kinds of activity has been done for 40years and almost grassland has been restored!

In addition, this activities is done by collaboration of volunteer. This is also common to Satoyama preservation.
But, while Satoyama preservation needs to take sustainable-farm-act into acount,
primeval nature preservation dosen't need it. If natural grassland once restored, we could entrust ecological succession.

こんにちは。小島です。
これまで里山を中心にご紹介しましたが、今日は日本の原生自然についてご紹介します。

この写真は新潟県にある巻機山で、私の所属していた研究室の１つの研究フィールドです。
ご存知の通りこの辺りは全国有数の豪雪地帯であり、1500m以上のエリアでは高木は生育出来ず写真の通り自然草原が広がっています。
しかし約40年前、登山者のオーバーユースが原因で、この自然草原が荒廃してしまいました。農大造園科学科の旧自然環境保全学研究室では、この草原の風景を取り戻すために、40年間もの活動を継続してきました。
例えば、池塘に侵入した土壌を取り除き、その土壌を人力で100m程上部の荒廃した草原に客土し、池塘と草原双方の復元を図る、といった重労働を行ってきました。

このような先人方の努力の甲斐もあり、現在は大半の草原が再生されました。

なおこの活動は、時に市民活動との協働で取り組まれ、この点は里山保全と近似しています。しかし原生自然と二次自然の保全活動の根本的な違いとして、後者は自然に対する農的活動に持続的に取り組む仕組みをつくる必要があるのに対し、前者はそれを必要としません。原生自然保全は、一度復元させれば植生遷移に委ねればいいので、考え方としてはシンプルです。しかし、その原生自然を再生する方策や労力が、里山保全と比較して大変であると言えるでしょう。

We did the guide of Japanese garden for international students in Kyu-Furukawa Gardens and Rikugien park!!
Although It's so hot day, every studens listened to our gide. Thank you very much!!
As charms about Japanese garden, We had could gide, for example, kaiyu-style garden, the relationship of Japanese garden and landform, , , and more!! But, it was too difficult to gide Japanese poem's scape in Rikugien park. We learned that to translate Japanese poem to English is not easy.
If you have an interest about Japanese garden, we are so happy!!!

Today I will introduce about “Ajisai ”(hydrangea).
“Ajisai “(Hydrangea) originated from Japan, And it has been improved in Europe, now it have many various colors and shapes.

Japanese Temples that are planting many “Ajisai” (hydrangeas). These temples are called
“Ajisai dera “.
At the time of the rainy season where hydrangea blooms, the change in temperature is intense, so many sick people and sick people died out in times when medical care was not developed like present. Therefore it seems that some temples were also called flowers to death.
From this, hydrangea is said to have been planted in the district 's temple where there was epidemic disease etc. in the past.
Even after the development of medicine has reduced the death toll by epidemic disease, hydrangea can be easily cultivated with cuttings, etc. Being planted in many temples throughout the country because of its beauty in drawing and etc. It is said that.
It is the season of hydrangea around June to July.
My recommendation is Hase Temple in Kamakura.

日本はもうすぐ梅雨入りします。
この時期に雨としっとり馴染む花
きょうは私から紫陽花について紹介します。
紫陽花は元々日本原産のガクアジサイが、ヨーロッパで品種改良され、今は様々な色、形の紫陽花があるそうです。

日本各地には境内には紫陽花（あじさい）の花を多く植えている寺院が点在しています。これらの寺院はアジサイ寺と呼ばれています。
紫陽花の咲く梅雨時は気温の変化が激しいため、現在のように医療の発達していない時代には多くの病人や病死者が出ていました。そのため寺によっては死人に手向ける花とも呼ばれていたようです。
このような事から紫陽花は過去に流行病等があった地区の寺に多く植えられていたという事です。
医学の発達で流行病による死者が減った後も、紫陽花が挿し木などで容易に栽培できること、書画等でその美しさが目を引くことなどにより、日本全国の多くの寺で植えられるようになったそうです。
6月～7月頃が紫陽花の季節です。
私のオススメは鎌倉の長谷寺です。

Today's report is from MASA!!

I would like to report "KAMAKURA city" in kanagawa prefecture.
About 800 years ago, Minamotono Yoritomo, the most popular sho-gun,held this city. KAMAKURA is the one of traditional city in Japan. So, we can see about 160 temples and shrine, too narrow way to drive present cars and old view. You can back in time!! And, the geographical feature of KAMAKURA is surrounded by mountain. The geographical feature had enemy not easy to attack then and make us feel it's not real world in now. Many flowers, trees and life from mountain is very exciting!!

The other day, we held a report meeting of KAKEHASHI project on May 23rd. On the day, about 30 students, 5 professors, 4 outside parties
Approximately 40 people came and we enjoyed a lot of excitement!

2. About Greenland's infrastructure in Portland
3. About the Portland Japanese Garden

I talked about the three above.

From everyone
"It is interesting to tell the hearts of Japanese people through Japanese garden techniques"
"Although I came to listen to talks in a foreign country, I became a good opportunity to know more about Japan if I notice it."

I got a lot of voices such as such, I am very pleased to be a meaningful briefing session

【KAKEHASHIプロジェクト報告会】
先日、5月23日にKAKEHASHIプロジェクトの報告会を開催しました。当日は30人前後の生徒、5名の教授、4名の外部者
約40名の方々にお越しいただき、大いに盛り上がりました！

目玉の企画「ポートランドで学んだこと」では、

1. 徒歩スケールから見たポートランド
2. ポートランドのグリーンインフラについて
3. ポートランド日本庭園について

以上の3つについてお話をしました。

みなさんからは
「日本庭園の技を通して、日本人の心を伝えるのは面白い」
「外国での話を聞きに来たのに、気づいたら日本についてもっと知りたいと思う良い機会になった」

などのお声も沢山いただき、意義のある報告会になり、大変嬉しく思います

日本庭園について考える上で授業中に興味深い質問がありました。
それは「屋上に作られた日本庭園は日本の固有の庭園か」です。
皆さんはどのように考えますか？
私は、屋上に作ることで固有の様式や景観が損なわれるなら日本の固有の庭園でないと思う。しかし、この景色を見て伝えたい心が伝われば日本の固有の庭園ではないかと思いました
。

私はサークルに所属していて庭を作っています。ついこの間茶室のある庭をガーデニングショーに向けて作りました。庭の植物に水をあげていると叔母さんが近寄ってきたので少しお話をしました。そこでおばさんは私たちの庭を見て、クリエイティブだね。正直私がデザインした庭じゃないし、それを悪くいうのは良くないことなのは承知ですが、私はこの庭を見てクリエイティブと感じませんでした。しかし、おばさんはクリエイティブと感じた。この体験を通じ庭とは観る人の心情や目線だけでなく年齢によっても見え方が変わってくるものだと学びました。

では、万人に評価される庭園どのような庭園なのでしょうか。何か共通点があるのか。そんなことを考えながら今回の投稿を終えたいと思います。

I’m Hinako. I’d like to talk about Japanese garden.

I get asked during class the question was intended when I think about Japanese garden. The question is “Is it a characteristics Japanese garden? which a rooftop garden. ”. What do you think? I think it’s not a characteristic Japanese garden if the view and style are broken. However if you see the view , you could understand what landscape gardener tell you , it’s a characteristic Japanese garden I think.

By the way，l belong to club activity which members make garden. The other day, l made a garden for Setagaya gardening show. I water the plants A woman spoke to me. Then she said this garden is creative and so cool. I was so surprised because I didn’t think this garden is creative at all. I know l make personal remarks that why I didn’t design this garden. I felt it’s NOT creative but a woman felt it’s creative. Through this experience I could learned depending on the person, the way they see garden changes.

Then I wonder what’s Japanese garden popular? Do popular Japanese gardens have common points? I’d like to think about it.

I want to talk about what's called coming-of-age ceremony of Japan today!
A coming-of-age ceremony is an event to celebrate that I became 20 years old (adult).
Japan has a holiday called the Coming-of-Age Day every year in January.
An expression is held at many places on this day.
Most women attend at an expression in a long-sleeved kimono!
There are a lot of kinds of a pattern having the color that is long-sleeved kimono interval state.

日本は毎年1月に成人の日という祝日があります
多くの場所ではこの日に式が行われます
大半の女性は振り袖を着て式に出席します！
振り袖はざまざまな色があります、柄の種類もたくさんあります！

Today’s report is from Shu.
These pictures are Yamada-Himawari-en, Miyaki-city, Saga prefecture.
All Japanese people who see these picture may feel something is wrong. The Himawari (sunflower in English) is regarded as a symbol of summer for Japanese. Even though that, Yamada-Himawari-en’s Sunflower bloomed when the Haze-tree(Goby in English)’s leaves turns red in autumn！
Over 10 years ago, local farmers came up with idea of planting sunflower into abandoned rice-field in autumn. At first, it was just playful attempt for farmers but this attempt got people hooked. And now, 20000 visitors come in two months(October to November) each year！

This is just an example. What I wanna tell is that it is increasing nowadays that rural farmers try to plant some flower into abandoned farmland. This action’s purpose is said that to reuse ancestral farmland and to promote sightseeing. In fact, many Japanese rural village has declined and such action is expected because it is the one of few way that local people could do in terms of economic and labor.
But, of course, there are variety of problems to develop such actions. Tourism adverse effects, alien flower species is planted, eutrophication, and lack of successors, etc.
The study of Landscape Architecture or Tourism is very important to solve this problem.

今日は小島から、日本のランドスケープ事情について紹介させて頂きます。

この写真は、佐賀県みやき町の中山間地にある山田地区の山田ひまわり園です。
夏のシンボルであるひまわりが、ハゼの木（写真後ろ）が紅葉する秋に咲き乱れるという、違和感ありまくりの風景です笑。
風土論で有名なかの和辻哲郎なら、一体何を思うのでしょうか？笑

このひまわり園は、10年以上前に中山間地域の助成を受けて耕作放棄地を活用しようと、地元の山田集落中山間地組合の方々が始めたのがきっかけです。
「ただ夏にヒマワリを咲かせるのは詰まらない」ということで、当初は面白半分で秋に咲かせたみたいですが、その違和感が人々の心をくすぶり、徐々に人気になってきました。
昨年は、10-11月の2ヶ月で何と2万人以上の来園者をカウントし、今やみやき町有数の観光スポットとなっております。
なお私は、農大とみやき町が地域連携を結んでいる関係もあり、3年前から山田地区の地域づくりに参画しています。

このレポートで海外の方に伝えたいのは、この山田ひまわり園のように、耕作放棄地に植花をするケースがポピュラーになりつつあるということです。
まず、先祖代々大切に受け継いだ農地を荒らしたくない、衰退した村を観光で活性化させたい、というのが主な目的です。（比較的安価且つそこまで労力を要さないという側面もあるでしょう）
山田ひまわり園も、そのような目的意識の下で、10数年続けてきた地元の方々の努力の結晶です。

しかし勿論、このような活動には軽視出来ない課題もあります。
まず、植花して一時的に来訪者が増えることと、いわゆる地域活性化との間のプロセスが未だ不透明です。
また環境の観点からは、外来種の花が植えられる（是非に議論あり）、花を咲かせるために富栄養化が起きる、等のケースが散見されます。
また、後継者不足も深刻です。山田ひまわり園の場合も、運営者のほとんど70-80代の方々で、新しい運営体制を構築しない限り、10年後も続くか難しい状況です。

限界集落の縮小・撤退論が俄に熱を帯びる今日、このような活動を続ける意義は何か？
もし続けるとしてその有効策とは何か？
この問いに、LAが担う使命は大きいと思います。私も、引き続きこの山田ひまわり園の活動をお手伝いさせて頂きながら、この問いの答えを模索したいと思います。

【日本の陶芸文化 Japanese pottery 】
こんばんは。
本日はnozomiからの投稿です！

日本文化が独自な発展を遂げたように焼き物も西洋と大きく異なる点があります。
① 材質の違い
洋食器は磁器で作られ、「石の粉」と粘土を合わせたものが多いが、対する和食器は主に粘土を材料に使う陶器が多い。和食器は手にもち直接口にあてて使用するので、質感や温かみに配慮したことが理由といえる。
② 揃え方
西洋のティーカップはセットの統一感があるが、日本では一つひとつ違うデザインのものを揃えることがある。これは亭主が客人に合わせて器を選ぶという茶道のおもてなしの心が根底にあるようだ。また、偶然できた歪みや不揃い、釉のにじみ具合にも日本人は美を感じ、使うにつれて角がとれて丸みをおび、じわじわと味が出てくる。これらが何とも言えない日本の焼き物のおもしろさであり、魅力である。

私の住んでいる茨城県では毎年この季節に1週間ほど伝統工芸である”笠間焼き”の”お祭り”があります。

「笠間の陶炎祭🔥」、
皆は「ひまつり」と呼びます。

日本には主に31種類の地域別の焼き方があり

“笠間焼き”は
丈夫で使い勝手がよく、新しい作品が多いのが特徴の陶器です。
笠間焼は18世紀頃、久野半右衛門道延という人物が近江の陶工を招き、陶器を作り始めたのが起源とされています。

今日は第37回ひまつりに遊びに行ってきました。
リアルな動物を表現する方、
淡い色で風景を表現する方、

私の友人である高橋協子さんは
茨城県の民話に登場するキャラクターを陶器で表現しています。彼女は図書館や芸術館とコラボして民話を広める活動を行なっています。

様々な感性が溢れる笠間焼き。
私はその自由なスタイルが大好きです。
茨城県に遊びにきた際は
是非貴方のお気に入りの陶器を見つけてください！
